I received an email from a new source in regards to what is coming at PMA. He says he's pretty confident there will be 2 new entry level cameras announced at PMA.
The new Rebel is an obvious one, but what about the 2nd? Will it be something below the rebel or a new entry level FF camera? No one appears to be too sure about that.

Someone over at fredmiranda is speaking of a few moments he spent with the 200 f/2.0L IS.
You can find the thread here.
There are a few test images.
A pretty good predictor of announcements has come about and said there will be no 5D replacement at PMA.
If you check his/her history, they're always bang on.
That doesn't rule out another FF camera body, there's always been a mumbling that the 5D would be split into 2 cameras.
I'd be resigned to the fact we'll be seeing a new Rebel and some compacts and perhaps some flash upgrades.
We're a couple days away from announcements and not a single “accidental” leak by Canon. I've been scouring their web site trying to find a gaff. No dice. :(
Here's a boring coincidence? No 5D in the Calumet catalog. I doubt it means anything. Retailers know as much as the people seeking the information.
It's rare to read a lot about coming point and shoot cameras, unless there's a G series on the horizon.
I do however see the following cameras getting updates:
PowerShot SD1000 -> SD2000, i can see it getting IS and more MP.
PowerShot A570IS -> A580IS, it sells very well, more MP.
PowerShot A560 -> I'm not sure Canon keeps this around, I believe they need to have IS in all their compacts. The only other difference from the 570IS was it not having manual controls (P, AV, TV, M).
PowerShot TX1 -> TX2, I have no experience with this camera, but it does have some fans. There are obvious shortcomings that could be improved.
I don't see any ELPH cameras that might be replaced.
I could also see a compact announced to compete with Panasonic's high FPS DMC-LX2K. I don't think we`ll see a 60fps camera to compete with Casio.
I don`t see any Canon compacts appearing with CMOS sensors until the G gets an update.
As for HD video, any TX update will have it. Doubtful any other model will yet.
I was quite under the weather today, I think I ate some bad chicken last night. The toilet and myself have a closer relationship than I'd like.
Anyway, my inbox had some info. I have been told 2 lenses will appear at PMA. Both have seen price drops in recent months.
EF-S 17-85 IS II (I'm not sure why this needs an update)
EF 100-400L II (It is long in the tooth, 1998 I believe. I hope they keep the push/pull)
The source was pretty confident Canon still has no immediate plans for a 17-200 type of zoom.
The fall announced 200mm and 800mm lenses should start appearing before the end of February.
I have been told both could be coming shortly.
Canon Speedlite 430EX II
- Metal Shoe
- Quick Release
- New Interface
Canon Speedlite 230EX
- Swiveling Flash Head
- Slightly more power
The 230EX could be a direct aim at G-series and S5IS users who don't want a full size flash. The current 220EX is pretty useless without the swivel.
I was sent an email late last night stating Canon plans to announce such a lens at PMA. I still don't buy it. The source also stated a few other lenses could be announced:
EF-S 17-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS
EF 24-70 f/2.8 IS
EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS (4 stop IS, twist zoom?)
EF-S 10mm Fisheye (sorely lacking in the canon lineup)
None of the current lenses are seeing any big price drops or perceived inventory shortages, so I have doubts any of them will be replaced yet. The EF-S 17-200 is a possiblity.
I do think there will be big lens announcements for Photokina when Canon announces the new 1D.
More rumors are starting to surface about a 5D replacement. The rumor states there is a UPC for the 7D but not the 5DII. The latest specs:
MP: 12MPx
FPS: 5fps,Up to 21 RAW files
AF: 15-point TTL CMOS sensor
AF: Center point additionally sensitive with lenses of F2.8 or faster
