3D & 6D

June 30th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon 5D Mark II

Remember?
When I put up the initial rumour about the 3D and 6D, some people commented that there's no way the megapixel count would reach what the 1DS is currently at.

This week we'll be seeing the Nikon D3 sold as a Nikon D700. So if Nikon can release just about the same camera for less money, why couldn't Canon?

Just food for thought.

Canon Lenses [CR5] & [CR3]

Canon EF-S 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS [CR5]
I talked to a couple of sources and both said the lens was leaked and is in fact coming down the pipeline.

Price? $999 USD. They're told it will be the best performing super zoom on the market today.

Other Lenses [CR3]
I said earlier I'd been told they'll launch 5 lenses for Photokina with one being the EF-S. It could still hold true.

EF-S 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS
EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS
EF 100-400 f/4-5.6L IS WOOPS, PREVIOUS WAS A TYPO

These are the lenses I've been told will be coming. I'm trying hard to get an idea what the other 2 might be.

Better late than never
According to this Dutch website, the EF-S 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS will be on its way in September.

I've never thought they'd make this lens, I'm not sure if it's possible to make one good AND affordable(sub $1000). If they do bring it out, it better kick butt.

Canon 40D Price drops

It's almost free
The price of the 40D continues to crash around the globe. It's almost free in the UK and US. This adds more fuel to the fire that Canon will be introducing 2 new FF cameras for Photokina.

I still don't expect the 40D to be outright replaced.

NL added the question whether or not either of the new FF cameras would be able to use EF-S lenses, I'm sure it's possible engineering wise. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Canon EF 100-400 f/4-5.6L IS [CR3]

It's coming
The source that spoke of the 5 new lenses from Canon claims the 100-400 is indeed getting an upgrade. It'll be slightly faster and possess a 5 stop IS. He wasn't sure whether or not it would be a push/pull design or not.

Canon EF 100-400 f/4-5.6L IS = $1899 USD

“G” Rumors [CR3]

June 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon P&S

What might be expected.
I've been informed that Canon will be splitting the “G” series cameras into 2 models. However, there's a good chance they won't both be released for Photokina. Definitely expect the arrival of a G10. This will be a subtle upgrade to the G9.

There will be erogonomic upgrades as well as a newer type of lens on the G10. Megapixels to remain at 12? That's what I'm told.

I'll have more on this tomorrow.

“G”MOS
What will be coming in the spring however, is the bigger CMOS sensored “G” camera. I will dub it the “G”MOS from here on out. I've had some information about it previously, I'm waiting for more.
