“G” Rumors [CR3]

June 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon PowerShot

What might be expected.
I've been informed that Canon will be splitting the “G” series cameras into 2 models. However, there's a good chance they won't both be released for Photokina. Definitely expect the arrival of a G10. This will be a subtle upgrade to the G9.

There will be erogonomic upgrades as well as a newer type of lens on the G10. Megapixels to remain at 12? That's what I'm told.

I'll have more on this tomorrow.

“G”MOS
What will be coming in the spring however, is the bigger CMOS sensored “G” camera. I will dub it the “G”MOS from here on out. I've had some information about it previously, I'm waiting for more.

Ideas sent in for downtime
I liked a few ideas people gave about expanding the information on the site when Canon direct rumors are scarce.

I like the idea of looking at what Sigma, Tokina and Tamron are up to for the EF mount. I will try to get info in that regard. Each of those companies do make some really good products that people desire.

Photoshop mockups!

You know we all love them. So if you've killed some time with creative mockups of Canon product, don't hesitate to send them in via email.

Keep the questions coming in the comments and via email, I will try to do a question period post every few days.

As always, I am scouring the web and various sources about new and exciting products on the horizon. Next week we get to read about Nikon's amazing new products, I for one will get tired of that fairly quickly!

Thanks for reading.

Canon S6 IS Update [CR4]

June 25th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon PowerShot

That was quick…
Just as I write not much is going on, I receive some new info about the S6 IS.

You ready?

This source is 100% sure the S6 IS will remain a AA battery camera, he was unsure whether it would be 4 or 2.

Some people are really passionate about it not going Li-Ion. I'd like to see it remain AA, just for the added weight.

Rumors Rumors Rumors

Not much of anything
There isn't too much going on in Canon Rumorland at the moment, I think we're all just waiting for “Nikon Week” next week. It looks like they're going to be announcing a nice camera in the D700. The D90 and a new flash isn't really too exciting.

Anyone eager about Nikon's releases? Who's switching? =D

So when rumors are slow, is there anything people want to hear about? I'm trying to think of some content ideas that can't be covered in the umpteen photography forums across the internet. My main focus is the rumors, but I don't want the site to be stagnant when stuff is slow.

Canon @ Photokina [CR2]

June 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon 5D Mark II

3 Canon SLR's at Photokina!…
…Or so an active German reader claims.

“I work for the company making Canons booths for Photokina, we are making booths for 3 new slr cameras, they haven't told us which ones. So if the XS is one of the cameras, the other 2 could be the new 3 & 6 cameras. I will try to get you more scoops”

Now I've never been to Photokina, but I hear it's massive. Doesn't every single camera get a booth? =P

Canon Powershot SX200 [CR4]

June 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon PowerShot

Fall refresh
Canon's popular SX100 will be replaced in the fall. Beyond the specs look for a camera with a slightly smaller form factor and a flash that doesn't need to be manually popped.

Specs:

Resolution: 10mp
Zoom: 10x
Focal Length: 36-360
LCD: 3″
Battery: AA
Feature: Viewfinder (maybe)
Video: 720p
Memory: SD

The camera needs a bit of love to compete with Panasonic's TZ series.

Canon EF 800 f/5.6L IS

First real world shots
Here's a thread on DPR with some example images from the 800mm super telephoto.

Sharpness looks pretty amazing, never really had a doubt about it being a great lens. Amazing super telephotos is a Canon thing.

Can't wait to see some wildlife stuff with the lens.

5 New Lenses? [CR2]

June 22nd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon Lenses

5 new lenses for Photokina?
I received an email today about Canon's plans in regards to new lenses for Photokina.

“My dealer in Cologne said to expect 5 new lenses for Photokina…. one will be ef-s, one will be a new zoom and the other three will be upgrades.”

I recall Canon stating they can only churn out 3-4 new lenses a year, so this might be a bit of a reach. However, the 3 upgrades would probably take far less resources to develop.

The lenses most sought after for an upgrade would include:

1. 17-40 f/4L (add IS and better on FF?)
2. 100-400 (f/4-5.6 and new IS?)
3. 400 f/5.6 (IS?)
4. 24-70 f/2.8 (Add IS)

What current lens would you most like to see upgraded?
