S6 IS
I get a bunch of questions daily about the S6 IS, the source I originally quoted said there would be announcement in June. He was right about the announcement (Rebel XS & 430EX II), just not about which camera(s).
I know a lot of you are ready to rush out and buy one, it will be a solid upgrade.
To refresh, here's the specs quoted:
I received new info about possible video resolution and the DIGIC III.
Resolution: 10mp
Sensor: CCD
Proc: DIGIC III
Zoom: 15x (28-420)
Video: 720p
Flash shoe: Yes
Memory: SD
Battery: Dedicated Li-Ion
Screen: 2.5″ articulating
Body: Rubberized gripping & lighter weight
Ergonomics: Jog wheel introduced
Image Type: RAW & Jpeg
I'm going with an August announcement and them starting to trickle out soon after.
xD Kit lens update?
I've received an email about an update to the 24-105 f/4 IS. I read about this a few weeks ago.
I'm not sure if it's the same person or not. Could just be the same recycled rumor.
Questions Answered
When are the new cameras coming?
Expect announcements in the usual August timeframe.
Will Canon introduce an APS-C point & shoot?
I expect a larger sensor CMOS “G” to be introduced, I don't think it'll be APS-C however.
When will I be able to buy an S6 IS?
I suspect sometime in September.
A “3D/6D” kit with the new 24-70(75) f/2.8 IS?
I haven't heard about such a kit but I will try to find out.
More news later.
The niche market camera coming?
[CR2]Olympus & Pentax have sold a bunch of their waterproof cameras and it appears Canon may want to cash in as well.
I'm told Canon will introduce a waterproof PowerShot at Photokina. Look for it to be in the $299 range. It won't be able to go as deep as a camera in one of Canon's waterproof housings, but it will be great for the pool and snorkeling.
Some recent questions
*Please remember the “3D” and “6D” monikers are just placeholders and may or may not be what Canon calls the cameras.*
Will the “3D” or “6D” have a popup flash?
No
Will the new G camera be DIGIC IV?
Unknown at present, but I will try to find out.
Will there be a “G” with interchangeable lenses?
Some type of rangefinder? It would be fantastic. If Canon treated it like a niche market, they could have a wonderful new little system. There are rumors of a Nikon rangefinder… which I'd buy the day it came out.
For now, I'm unaware of any plans from Canon for such a camera.
Will DIGIC IV produce less noise than Expeed?
I would certainly hope so.
What is “dealer NET”?
Better way to put it is “dealer cost”. It's what the store pays for the product.
If there's any more questions, fire away.
What new lenses are coming?
[CR3] The same source that told me about the 3D and 6D says this lens is definitely coming. There's a general feeling Nikon dropped the ball not VRing theirs. I don't think this comes as a shock:
EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS
He does think there is a slight possibility the lens could be a 24-75. A little added reach shouldn't degrade optical quality much.
He expects 3 or 4 lenses to be announced.
What rumors are better than others?
I've decided to add a rating system to the rumors I receive from people. The better the source, the better the rating. Some stuff I'm told is pretty out there, while other stuff is bang on.
I'm stealing this idea from another site that does hockey rumors (yes, yes… Canadians like hockey).
Rating System:
CR1 – The source is probably a 4 legged animal of some kind.
CR2 – Could be human, but making stuff up.
CR3 – Believable rumor, from a source that hasn't earned full trust.
CR4 – A trusted source who is pretty sure.
CR5 – Write this one in the history books, it's a done deal.
I hope this helps people gauge the rumors, and realize I'm not just making random stuff up. I want to be as honest on the site as possible.
Any questions, fire away.
DIGIC IV
The source that told me about the 3D and 6D has informed me that the 3D will be a DIGIC IV (if they use the “4″ moniker) camera..
More information
Still waiting for some info about lenses.
What there WON'T be at Photokina
There will be no upgrades to the pro bodies for Photokina. That means no 1D Mark IIIn is coming in the fall.
Update:
I reversed the monikers for the cameras to be more in line with EOS heritage. I appologize for any confusion this may have caused with the Canon purists.
:)
Flamed
A few people have posted some flames on the comments section and sent emails. I don't mind at all if there's disagreement, doubt and whatnot; my only request is you keep the language clean and not get personal.
This is a rumors site, the only way I can prove this information is to let time pass until this stuff is announced.
Thanks!
More News
I do have some more info coming, I should have it by the end of today.
Big News
This information comes from a very good source, think the famed “tsiphoto” type of contact.
So here it is, the 40D isn't being replaced for Photokina. The 40D will live on, but at a reduced price. The body will be $999 USD before any rebates come the fall.
What Canon is doing is adding 2 models between the 40D and 1D Mark 3, I think this rumor has been around for a long time.
This is what's coming (My source doesn't have exact model names.)
Canon EOS 6D (unknown model name)
Resolution: 15mp Full Frame
FPS: 5fps
LCD:3″
AF: 9 point
ISO: 100-3200
Memory Card: CF
Proc: DIGIC IV *UPDATED*
Sealing: Some (40D)
Feature: Live View w/AF
Price: $1999 USD
Canon EOS 3D(unknown model name)
Resolution: 20mp Full Frame(Sounds unbelievable, but true)
FPS: 5fps
LCD: 3″ VGA
AF: 9 point
ISO: 50-6400
Memory Card: CF
Proc: DIGIC IV (if they use “4″)*UPDATED*
Sealing: Yes, Full.
Feature: Live View w/AF
Feature: Movie Mode
Price: $2999 USD
Canon's lineup for Christmas will be;
Rebel XS
Rebel XSi
40D
6D
3D
1D Mark III
1Ds Mark III
Is the “3D” close to the 1ds3? Yes it is, there will be an upgrade of the camera well before the 3 year product lifecycle of the last 2. Nikon has shown Canon they need to do more than incremental updates to their cameras.
I will have more information later in the day.
I will say that I am completely confident in my source, but only time will prove it.
