The Next “G”

July 21st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon PowerShot

Is this up the right alley?
Some competition specs.

Panasonic LX3 Specs (NEW)
- Ultra wide-angle 24mm with 2.5x optical zoom
- F2.0 Leica Summicron lens
- High sensitivity 1/1.63″ CCD with 10 megapixel resolution
- 3:2 aspect LCD (460k pixel resolution), film modes, other advanced photographic oriented features
- Compatible with external flashes and filters. Can add an accessory viewfinder and wide-angle conversion lens
- HD movie mode

There are a few things that look fantastic about this camera. I love the 24mm and the f/2.0 lens. I also like they kept it “low” at 10mp.

I'd like to see the next G setup like this, moreso than some of the specs i've seen. if they can do this but make it 6x zoom… they'll have a winner! I'd even buy one!

What do you think?

Canon USA Rebel XSi Price Drops [CR4]

July 21st, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Canon 450D

MSRP falling a lot
Canon USA will be dropping the price of the XSi kit and body only packages next week.

MSRP's (Street will be lower obviously)

XSi w/18-55 $749
XSi Body Only $649

Those are the prices you should expect, it will be a big drop anyway. I expect Canon Canada to follow suit.

Canon EOS 50D & 1Dx [CR2]

For PMA as thought
Some tidbits of info about Canon's PMA plans.

They will release the 1Dx (won't use “4).

1Dx

Resolution: 14mp
Sensor: APS-H 1.3 Crop (I think FF)
AF: 51 Point (New System)
FPS: 12
Proc: Dual DIGIC IV
ISO: 100-12800
Feature: New Live View
Feature: HD Video (another rumour)

50D

Resolution: 14mp
Sensor: 1.6 Crop
AF: 11 Point
FPS: 8
Proc: DIGIC IV
ISO: 100-3200
Feature: Better Sealing

Seems to be a mishmash of features, and some people have expressed their thoughts that the XXD line of cameras would be erased from Canon's lineup. I think this is true eventually, but not quite yet.

Canon planning to acquire Eastman Kodak? [CR2]

July 12th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon General

Canak?
There's some small fires being lit that Eastman Kodak is primed for a takeover bid by some imaging company. A year or so ago the rumors surfaced that HP was planning a takeover, nothing materialized. There's now been new information that Xerox and/or Canon may be planning to expand their imaging empires.

Good move for Canon? absolutely. Canon's sensor expertise could only benefit from acquiring Kodak's image sensor technologies. Canon FINALLY getting into the medium format game?

Another great branding/business opportunity? All those Kodak digital printing kiosks you see around the planet… they could all become Canon kiosks. A lot of Canon camera enthusiasts do forget they're an imaging company first.

I'm just looking at this quickly, but I see a lot of benefits for Canon.

Kodak is dead, it's a company without focus but with a lot of usable assets.

A posting about it:

I know you're all waiting for the Canon Easyshare G10, docking stations are cool.

3D & 6D Update – Announcement [CR3]

July 9th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon 5D Mark II

Announcements
I was told this evening that Canon has no plan on stealing any thunder from Nikon before the launch of the D700. In notorious Nikon fashion, stock of the camera will be extremely low. Canon still plans to announce in the 3rd week of August.

I'm still not convinced they'll wait that long.

SD?
I've been told both of the cameras will have a CF & SD slot. Canon seems to be committed to moving their entire lineup to SD.

Sigma [CR2]
I've been told to expect some redone sigma ultra wide angles for full frame mounts. 16-40 f/2.8-4.0 is a possibility.

There has been no rumors floating around about Tamron or Tokina, but I will keep on trying to get some info.

Thinking out loud…
How quick do you think someone will hack the XSi firmware and make it workable on the XS. I can't see it being too difficult to give the XS highlight tone priority, noise reduction and that auto lighting thing.

Maybe I'm wrong. :)

What about some cool photography?
In the end, this is what it's about. I found this link last night, there's some great aerial stuff here.

Enjoy!

If you've seen it before, see it again.. it's worth it.

Singh-Ray Filters

Take a peek :)
There's a new link on the right hand side for Singh-Ray filters. I invite you to visit and learn a bit about the company and their products. A lot of people have never heard of them.

I don't make a single penny for any click through or anything you may purchase. I haven't received any products for free either. I just added their link because I feel they make the best filters in the world. I use them exclusively.

Take a peek at their blog, which showcases some great landscape photographers. Also visit their store to see great filters like the LB Warming Polarizer and Vari-ND. Both of which are terrific and unique. If you have any questions about their products, feel free to ask me.

Next post will be about Canon, I promise. =D

New Lens EF-S 10mm f/2.8 Fisheye [CR2]

July 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon Lenses

EF-S 10mm f/2.8 Fisheye
I received an email regarding a new lens from Canon, a 2nd EF-S mount for Photokina. Previously I had been told there would only be one new EF-S lens, the 18-200. I'm still thinking there will be only one.

Would anyone actually want a crop fisheye?

1D Mark X

July 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Canon 1D Mark 4

Rumors floating around now
People are talking a lot about a 1D Mark IIIn/X. I've been told by someone at Canon that they will not be doing an “N” for the Mark III. Could we see a new 1D body altogether at Photokina? For marketing reasons, I really do feel an “n” version would be the wrong way to approach a replacement.

I'm still thinking you won't see a new 1D until PMA with the 50D.
