An anonymous source sent in info about the 24-70 f/2.8L IS.
“I have tested the 24-70 2.8L IS lens and can say it is coming for Photokina. There has been an upgrade to the optics and the addition of a 4 stop image stabilization system. The lens is the same size as the current model and slightly heavier.”
Hopefully this lens is priced high enough that Canon can put USM in it. :)

This lens was not announced or released at Photokina 2008.
Is there any more recent news on whether Canon really intends to release a 24-70 F/2.8L IS in the near future?
If so, when, and at what price point?
I am presently waiting on purchasing this lens because of the amount of “buzz” over an impending release, but I have seen nothing solid, and the rumor of release at Photokina this year was proven false.
