Sales of the 1Ds Mk III have probably slowed to a crawl with the new 5D Mk II about to hit the market with a better sensor, and any pro wanting this body has bought it long ago. Also, Canon's profits are way down so maybe releasing this expensive body will be a needed shot in the arm for sales.
