It seems a safe bet that Canon will release the next 1Ds model within the next few months. Sales of the 1Ds Mk III have probably slowed to a crawl with the new 5D Mk II about to hit the market with a better sensor, and any pro wanting this body has bought it long ago. Also, Canon's profits are way down so maybe releasing this expensive body will be a needed shot in the arm for sales.

There's no way the 1D will have that many megapixels. Dual DIGIC IV couldn't deal with that file size at 10fps.

The 1D MK3 will be the 3D at around 21-26 Mp and the 1D MK4 will be 28-38 Mp. and Canon will either come out with 70+ Mp medium format or something close like the new 32-38 Mp Leica Sensor but more Mp's.
