well, only tossed 20% due to focus compared to 70%. And I think I tweaked it too far so have dialed back the adjustment.

And I'm just a weekend photog.

I just came back from a session out in bright sunlight and 21 degrees (not bad for a Canadian October). I had spent last night tuning the AF with microadjust so am eager to see the improvement: the camera had been front focusing so perhaps that is contributing. I know that I was having trouble with focus.

Got a 50D on Wednesday and it's being returned to Ritz Camera for a Refund. This thing sucks big time. I really hope the 5D doesn't suck this much. The focus performance is terrible. The noise levels are thru the roof. Noise Reduction posterizes the image too much and the camera perfroms really bad on dark areas creating color noise even on ISO 160!
I did some noise and focus comparison shots with my 1D Mark III and the 1D wins hands down. The color is also a lot more accurate on the 1D. I just wish I had the Hi-Res screen on my 1D...
I preordered a 5D MK II. I hope the sensor behaves better but I know the focusing system is the same crappy 9-point system on the 50D. Also the BG-E2N battery grip is cheap, plastic and doesn't have an AF-ON button. It doesn't fit the camera right and it looks awkward. The zoom buttons are too recessed on it and they are hard to "feel" when you are shooting.
The EyeCup is too small on the 50D. It doesn't block the light enough. After taking a picture, the screen is too bright and it distracts and blinds you between shots.
I am not 100% sure but I think the 5D shares the same processor and even though the sensor is full-frame, I believe the quality should be expected to be the same as on the 50D. But then again, i hope not.
Live View is nice but there is no way u can use it right without a tripod. Especially without the grip. The camera is too heavy for anyone to stretch their arms and hold it steady, not to mention the AF button, which should have been a shutter half-press, is actually on the body, making it harder to hold for 4 seconds until the camera decides to focus...
The only thing I know is that the average body on the 50D is as bad as it will be on the 5D. Why wouldn't Canon make a 5D PRO or an in-between 3D with a nicer body and upgraded focusing system...
If the 5D sucks like the 50D I am gonna return it and get a 1Ds MK III and wait for the 1Dx MK IV with the VGA screen and video mode.
There are too many clear reasons why the 1D's cost twice as much. The 5D and the 50D are just not professional enough for any use. Either sports, studio or any application.
