1Ds Mark IV [CR1]

November 29th, 2008 Posted in Canon General

Screenshot!
Apparently this came from the Canon Japan web site. I call bogus because of the “IV” moniker.

Can anyone translate this?

It was from here (link is dead now): http://cweb.canon.jp/camera/eosd/1dsmk4/index.html

Picture from this forum: http://d-spot.co.il/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=318022

Just have a look at the ISO range. 100-6400? If the 5dII gets 25600, why shouldnt the new flagship? I call this a fake ;)

Definately a fake. It’s based on the 1Ds III page, but they used the wrong font. The “Mark IV” below should be in teh same sans serif font, instead it’s in a serif.

The ISO range listed is usually what is native to the body which doesn’t include expansion. It’s obviously a fake but should shake things a little bit with the release of the D3X. cheers…

Just applied a curves layer to the screenshot and you can clearly make out the editing around the words “Mark IV” – it is definitely a fake.

    also the URL: http://cweb.canon.jp/camera/eosd/1dsmk4/index.html

replace the 1dsmk4 with 1dsmk3 and you get the current page.

yitzy: you’ve misunderstood – the *current* camera is the MkIII is what I meant.

either way – the screenshot is a fake.

I do not see any need for Canon to replace the 1Ds Mark III. The Nikon D3x will cost the same, and will not bring any reason to change.

Canon could cut their price a little which would boost sales. They may have to do this anyway due to slow economy.

The 1D Mark III needs a upgraded replacement soon. I don’t see a need for a full frame sports camera, speed is the requirement here.

It is easy, Canon will not make the same promotional material. IT IS FAKE

It looks fake to me. I and V are misaligned with the latter being a bit too low.

Anyway 5DII is the camera to get now, 1DsIII has somewhat lower spec and higher price tag and weight. Nikon D3X doesn’t look that sexy either with 1600 ISO and 5fps. D700 probably has the most appeal to me of the other cameras.

    It says:
    - Approx. 27 mega pixels
    - Full size(36 x 24 mm) CMOS sensor
    - 5.0 shots/sec.
    - 3.0 inch LCD monitor
    - 45 AF points
    - ISO 100 – 6400
    - DIGIC IV image processor
    - Approx. 1210 g weight(body only)

    * ISO speed is the same spec. as 5DmkII. So, it will be expandable.

The 1D3 replacement is very important to Canon.
Maybe not the 1Ds3. But with the D3 being faster, FF and 12mp, the already almost obsolete 10MP 1D3 needs a MP bump and a hi-red screen with video for sports and journalism.
The 5D2 is not a pro camera. 21mp is great but the body is bad. The grip is too small, especially with long lenses, no vertical grip either, limited AF system and even the eye cup is too small.
Canon needs more professional equipment. I know their bread and butter see the point snd shoots and the low end Rebel DSLR’s but Nikon is outdoing Canon in both levels and that’s scary.
    I need a 1D3 replacement desperately.

    It’s 27MP, but it’s also a fake 27MP.

My prediction is there will be no Marl IV. The number 4 is a very unlucky number in many east asian countries. I believe it means death. This is the reason Canon skipped the G4 and G8. But that’s speculation mainly.

It’s fake based on a good deal already mentioned.

Don’t know why I am even bothering to reply, but I also don’t know why anyone would take this seriously… Look at the image, first of all the “Mark IV” is lower res, i.e. it was resized to put it there. The “Mark IV” in the link on the left is the same, and does not fit the link. But perhaps the biggest give-away of it all is the blurring of the Mark III on the body. Come on people, if you are going to make fake leaks, at least do it properly…

I think the next eos-1 series will also look differently, though I don’t know if it will be even more smooth and professional, or more swiss-army knife like the D3 (which, although fugly, has a certain appeal).

Interesting angle on Mark IV in asian countries. In Chinese, “4″ is indeed phonetically similar to “death” but “8″ is a lucky number. Boeing took advantage of this in selling the 787-8 to Asian countries. (I think they did some promotion on July 8, 2008 also.)

Canon is said to be running a teaser ad in the latest issue of practical photography. I haven’t seen it. (DPR)

    Yes this is FAKE!

If you can read Japanese you’ll know this is fake.

go to the Japan EOS site
    http://cweb.canon.jp/camera/eosd/1dsmk3/index.html

noticing underneath Kiss F there’s “Discontinued Product” (of course in Japanese), then there’s “Product Comparison”

The fake one didn’t do a good job cutting/pasting, you can see the above 2 got blended in together. Ha!!

Another rumor I heard, is that Canon might skip Mark 4 and skip to 5 (or some other names)

The reason for that is when it comes to 4D, in Japanese (Chinese) it sounds the same as “death”, remember PowerShot skipped 4 and went to 5?

(in some language D sounds like “Pig” too, which would make 4D dead pig)

But yes. I come from a Taiwanese family, and the word for 4 is the same sounding word for death.
