Solid blog. I got a lot of good data. I've been following this technology for awhile. It's intriguing how it keeps shifting, yet some of the core components stay the same. Have you seen much change since Google made their most recent acquisition in the area?

Canon will not attend PMA 2010. and rumour says....
They will introduce their new model as 1DmkV witch will meld ff and crop sensors together.
This will happen not earlier than september 2012. It will be FF 21MP and cropped 16MP together. Also better DR and NR than 1DsMKIII. And 10fps at 16MP sensor mode otherwise 5fps in ff mode. Digic engine will be type V. Video and other things like in 1DmkIV.
Something like 1DsMKIV 32MP maybe in early 2011 because Sony will introduce its 36MP at late 2010 or January 2011.

Actually the DIGIC 4 is called DIGIC 4 also in Japan:
http://cweb.canon.jp/camera/eosd/5dmk2/index.html
The thing about number 4 considered unlucky in Japan is true though because 4 (that can be read either yon or shi) has the same pronunciation of shi (death).

The reason why we don't need more megapixels in not noise. but lenses. Only the best lenses at optimum apertures can match the 15mp sensor in the 50d.

I doubt id this will stop manufacturers from adding more, but the IQ will not improve.

Black silicone has been around 8 or more years now, and nothing has been developed yet. Every few years, the developers release a new press release like it was a new breakthru. Really, they are just trying to win more government grants. You can't make lenses with it either.

How much more megapixels can a APS-C sensor take before moving up to a APS-H?
With todays 50D sensor it would be up to 22 megapixels before losing to noise. The size of the pixel with nano technology can make a APS-C size sensor to 50+ megapixels but massive noise even at ISO 100. And today's Dslr's needed higher ISO with very low noise isn't possible with out new technology like the Black Silicon. The Black Silicon technology advance provide for very high ISO with low noise. But that technology into the Dslr market is 6-12 years away. It would be possible to make the pixels small enough to make a 50 megapixel APS-C sensor that would be equivalent to Canon's 50D and still have enough room for ISO of 102,400. But for now expect the 1.6 crop to max out at 22 megapixels and crawl from there until new sensor technology comes to hand. APS-H around the corner.
Please add your opinion

Not to be down on the site since i frequent it quite often and like it but are you ever going to have any CR-3 and above? Seems like you are getting your stuff mostly from forums and such that we get it from and a lot of it is pure speculation
