Still haven’t heard any rumours about an actual release date in the UK beyond the standard “end of November”… Any ideas? I’ve had my preorder in for a while now….

Some people are already getting tracking info from Adorama. Some stores throughout the US are calling customers to pickup their orders today/yesterday. A lucky few are getting their 5DmkII’s before Thanksgiving.

I think the last few days have been harder than waiting the whole month of October. Probably because I have to watch the threads of everyone else playing with their new toys : )

Henry’s in Toronto is unsure of how many units they’ll receive but expect to get inventory later this week, or early next. They have a long long list of pre-orders to fill. I was in somewhat early (sept 22) and “may” get in on the first shipment.

Henry’s told me shipping this week on Monday, and the same inventory quote. I am around the corner from their flagship store downtown today and have half a mind to drop in there. I ordered same day as you and am optimistic but something tells me we will be waiting a while. This is killing me!

    Hi

I was in Jacobs (UK) today and was told that as a whole Jacobs have 300 pre-orders and will not be able to supply all from the first batch but expect every pre-order to be met by the second week in December.

I also heard that there was issues with the packaging for the body only and that kits would be out first.

Sent an email to Adorama inquiring about my order and received this response back (order placed Sept 23)

We receive a shipment next week but there is a queue and its difficult to determine your place in the queue. with that being said, if you receive an email confirmation next week saying your unit has shipped, you are receiving it. if you receive a back order email that means you have to wait for the next shipment.

Per Rep, OneCall has requested 100 but not guarantee to how many they will receive. Their shipment should arrive any day now.

When I called them today to see where I was on the list they said they had no way to tell (huh?)

This is what was explained to me. If you pre-ordered in the store with no deposit on any item they will make one effort to contact hold for a day then release. If you ordered online you plunked down your credit card and you will be sent the order with the shipping you chose when your number is up.

I got the same “no way to tell” from them as well. My order was placed Sept 22. I am hopeful but think waiting a few days may in fact put me out of luck. Time will tell. They did tell me they did not know how many they were getting as well but thought they should be shipping this week.

It just seems to take so long to get anything from them.

I would have liked to have gotten it before Thanksgiving but 3-4 weeks before Christmas will do.

    Hello folks,

I just canceled my order from OneCall since I’m 50+ on the list. The good news is that I was able to secure an order with Profeel from New York. I did the background and noticed the company has good rating from BBB and e.opinion. After talking with the rep, they are accepting orders and the list is much smaller. Additionally, the rep called me to inform of their next shipment. Of course, I jumped on it. Excellence customer service. Just crossing my finger that everything will go as promised.

    Good luck all.

By the way the camera is off the hook! Still playin with the video….there are some limitations…of course. The high ISO is amazing!

Today I called Canon Netherlands again. I told them there website tells everyone the camera would be available 24e of Nov. but that it is still not in the shops. The guy told me they have the camera’s but they need to check how every shop gets. The shipment to the stores will take place next week. So by the end of next week you will find the camera here in the Netherlands. But then again he also told me that most shops will only get 1 to 3 camera’s :(

Preoredered one for my wife from Calumet about 10 days ago. Three days after they automatically refunded my money for no reason?? That same day I preordered from Ritz. They took my money (without shipping costs or sales tax! awesome). All I care is that it gets here before Christmas (and enough time to charge the battery and put it back in the box).

In the meantime, I will still keep shooting my Nikon D700 ;) It makes a great marriage :)

    Dean: Hello!

    Dean: HELLO!!!!!!!!!

Gilbert S: Hello Dean. Welcome to live help on RitzCamera.com. I will be glad to assist you.

Dean: I would like to know the status of my order: $%&(*#@

Gilbert S: Please give me a moment while I check the order for you.

Gilbert S: I would like to inform that we are yet to receive this item from the manufacturer.

Gilbert S: The item will be shipped once we receive it from the manufacturer.

Gilbert S: We are unable to provide any expected date of arrival for this item.

Dean: How is it that several online and local stores have received and have been shipping to their customers? Other customers have been contacted by Ritz to inform them that their camera is shipping.

Dean: I need more information than what you are quoting me from your website. If you don not have that information, then I need to speak to someone who does.

Gilbert S: I am sorry, please note that we, as retailers, are completely dependant on the manufacturer for receiving the merchandise.

Dean: I understand. Other retailers are giving their customers some information.

Gilbert S: Currently we have not received any update from the manufacturer regarding the next arrival date for this item.

Gilbert S: However, we will send an email notification once the order is shipped.

Dean: Since you are shipping to some customers, then you should have better information. Have you received any from Canon? How many? Where am I in line?

Gilbert S: I am sorry, we are unaware of your position in the waiting list.

Gilbert S: However, we ship the item on first come first serve basis.

Dean: Why not? Someone is keeping a list. You should be able to find that out. You are still not telling me if you have received any cameras from Canon.

Gilbert S: I am sorry, yes we have received some cameras from Canon. But that items have been shipped on first come first serve basis.

Dean: So, where am I on the list?

Gilbert S: I am sorry, we are unable to track your position in the list. we can only assure you that the item will be shipped once received from the manufacturer.

Dean: How do I upgrade to priority shipping? How much?

Gilbert S: Yes ,you can upgrade your shipping to a different shipping mode.

    Dean: HOW?

    …….. Chat ended ……. ???????

All I got was how sorry he was.

I’ve had similar “chats” with Ritz myself and it is quite frustrating-especially after they request the order number! You’d think that would help “track” orders or position in line. I am amazed really – all this mystery over a camera – they either don’t know or don’t want to discourage people from taking their names off their lists? Calumet makes you prepay for the camera and I heard they don’t offer much more info either. I’d rather pay when I know its coming. I did get an email today from Ritz – “we haven’t forgotten you” and while on chat I was able to at least confirm I am on the list. I saw a couple of blogs that said people got shipping email confirmations from Ritz for the kit which they preordered on 10/3/08. I preordered the same day but just the body – I already have the lens.

Mind boggles me – its a great camera but still…just a camera and you’re right – you’d think Ritz, a major vendor, would have a bit more info than they are willing to share especially when after they ask for the confirmation number!

We can continue to “chat live” with Ritz and keep our fingers crossed!

Well, that’s cute but doesn’t make sense if you already are invested in Canon lenses. And while the war rages on for more file size, less noise, faster, blah blah those who have done amazing things with one or the other will likely stay in their respective “parties” because starting over is cost prohibitive.

Mary: I’ve pre-ordered from Ritz too on 10/13 (I deliberated a month as I contemplated…should I pay my property taxes or buy a new camera?? Then I remembered my kid’s college fund..)

No word, same story- “no, there have been NO units received from Canon…you will get yours when we get it”….

Samys camera, local in Santa Ana, says they’ve only received a few units. They likely have a much larger allocation than a consumer retailer like Ritz….so who knows??? I have a few projects I was hoping to do with the new high ISO/low noise features, but have put off doing.

  66. Mary Says:

Photoshack: I got a bit (very little) more info from Ritz the other night – they at least acknowledged that they got a first shipment and shipped out on a first come first serve basis. Which doesn’t make any sense. On the blogs some people are saying they ordered later than 10/3 and already got shipping confirmation and others are saying they ordered on 9/23 and are still waiting. I also got confirmed that I am still on the Ritz List and that my shipping had been (by my request) upgraded to overnight and of course, they could not tell me where I was in the waiting list…etc, etc…I did email Canon today – why not? I am a 25 year + Canon-ite and don’t plan on making the switch to Nikon but I do see Dean’s point – Canon could make this kind of info readily available to their vendors and vendors with the reputation of Ritz should be able to better track customer preorders to provide as much help to their customers as possible. Each time I’ve chatted with them, they ask my confirmation number. I am not sure why since it doesn’t seem to yield any specifics.

Oh well. The excitement…the anticipation…I too was hoping to use the new Canon for several Christmas low light events…patience is the name of the game…I’ll post back if I hear anything or get any more info from my daily “chat” with Ritz!

Dean: Will do and please do the same. I skipped my daily “live chat” with Ritz the past couple of days…still nothing online showing except “backordered”. Hold backs on merchandise usually help to jack up the price – I don’t think that’s the case with Canon – I am really thinking they underestimated on interest and just didn’t produce enough to go around. I was also toying with (these are the kinds of thoughts that brew in an idle mind just waiting…) Canon may be pumping out more kits with the lens because they are “planning” to replace or tweak that lens and want to unload from inventory. Just a wild thought but seems like the kits are easier and shipping faster and I wonder if its to “add on” on the lens, decrease stock on that item and then ship. If you can make a body and attach a lens…then stands to reason you can just make a body and ship it?

Maybe I’m too simple minded…anyway. I’ll keep you posted and please do the same. I was so hoping to have this camera for Christmas…

    Still waiting…

Rob: I paid $2699.99 at Best Buy – there wasn’t any problem with the price. I ordered it online but had to do a store pickup since they had it in stock. Yes. But no shipping and I perked it out because I use Upromise (helps plan for my child’s college!) so I got 2% on that, 1% on the credit card and also earned Best Buy Reward Zone points…so I got something back in a small way – but something back anyway.

Now…any recommendations for a good editing software? I use Adobe Photo Essentials 7 (I’ll reserve comment on that – not happy but its affordable) – but its quite limited with these higher megapixels and video. Haven’t been all that happy with it even with my 5D and my G10. Any recommendations? Let me know.

I’m loving learning this new baby. Hope the same. Let me know if you have any good software recommendations. I feel limited with what I currently use. Thanks!

There is a 10% off Best Buy coupon that you can use to get some of that money back. Check here: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthr…id=0&t=1063058 It’s mid page.

I use Light Room and Photoshop for editing photos. For video I use iMovie, or Final Cut Express on the Mac.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Dean: Thanks for the Best Buy info – I’ll check into that. Also, I have Light Room but can’t use Mac stuff – I use windows. Well, maybe now with the advent of these bigger and better cameras – more software will be developed to help better process the large sizes. If you hear of anything – let me know.

Have you had a chance to use the camera? I will be experimenting tomorrow evening at my daughter’s Christmas performance…I did a couple of “practice” videos at home…not bad at all but the processing and viewing on my computer – not so great. I need to do some research and see if there’s anything better out there to use.

Out of curiosity I checked Ritz – the camera is still on backorder. I really do appreciate your sharing your info about Best Buy! Thanks!

Thanks Mary, I have tried Best Buy but they are all out of stock across the state. I searched Sacramento, San Francisco, Antioch, Stockton, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Maria, Los Angeles and San Diego oh yeah, and Chico! All said UNAVAILABLE

As for editing software, i fyou are using a PC and want a light but robust version of Photoshop but want easy to use I suggest going with Photophop Lightroom 2. It is great! I use it for most of my clients projects. it handles large files and is great I am playing with Aperture 2 on my mac. If you would like to see finished work please check out my site. http://www.RobertCristie.com Thanks for the useful tips on finding this rare beast!!! I may one day capture it, who knows when…..

Mary: I’m glad you were able to get it. Make sure you use the coupon. I was credited back $292.

I used it a couple of times and it is great. Check out my little video I shot with it: http://vimeo.com/2480638

I canceled my Ritz order, only to receive a reply stating that it has shipped. Funny thing, the email was addressed to someone named Igor, with a totally different number from mine.

That show how screwed up Ritz is. I’m glad I was able to find it locally, which ended up costing me less than online and was able to walk out with it the same day.

    Happy shooting! :)

I received an email from McBain Camera a week or so ago telling me that I’d likely have to wait for the New Year before receiving my camera, but this evening I got a phone call from them saying that it is in and it will be on it’s way to me tomorrow. Quite a nice surprise. I ordered the kit on Oct. 1. Oh, and I’m getting the original Canadian pricing too.

I ordered from Ritz on 10-6, and I was very close to canceling my order this week, but just got an email today that it shipped. Body only.

Dean: Saw your video clip! Pretty cool! I tried the link you gave me but it said “page not found”. Could you send it again? I wouldn’t mind getting the $292 back!

Igor? WOW! Ritz really messed this whole process up for sure. I am so glad you shared the Best Buy tip! I took my camera with me down to the beach this past weekend and got some awesome sunrise pictures and moon pictures. It was great in low light. I don’t know if you experienced any problems…but I use Adobe Photo Essentials 7.0 and had a hard time downloading pics – until I went to their website and downloaded the update to Camera Raw 5.2. Finally got it to work – and also it updates for the G10 too which I also have.

I am still waiting for the Lightroom 2.2 update – they said it should be coming sometime this month so if you use that software you may want to check back at their website.

Thinking of investing in the CS4. Any insights? Let me know what you think.

    Thanks!

Dean: FYI http://www.adobe.com/downloads now has the Lightroom 2.2 update to help process pics with the Canon 5D Mark II. Fairly easy to download and use! Glad that aggravation is over.
