Our First 5D Mark II Unboxing
November 27th, 2008 Posted in Canon 5D Mark II
Holy cow, there’s a camera in there!
This was sent to us from Austin, Texas. The camera came from Precision Camera.
First thing I noticed was the model name on the strap. Some will like it, others won’t.

This is just the body, no kit lens? Hopefully so – I ordered just a body and with the much-earlier rumours that the bodies alone wouldn’t be shipping at the same time still had me worried.

Not sure about the model name on the strap…. Might grab the strap from my 5D Mk I and leave the new strap on the Mk I, which, when I take it out, would more often be on a tripod these days.

Don’t care about the strap I always change them because I hate them… and of course I have no interest to show to other people which camera I have around my neck.

I dont like it either… I am a lot poorer and have a 40D and might get envious if i see one of those straps!!
Nikon does it…. and have never liked it, its not classy… its bad taste to show off the camera, show off your pictures if you want to show something off….
Stay classy San Diego.

These are my images.
I agree with the comments on the strap which is why I pulled the strap off my 20D to tone things down a bit:

I hate the canon camera strap… I have a plain black strap that I like to use for everything. Personally I just hate logos and branding. I even go as far as gaffer taping all the logos on the camera. I did the same with my leicas. Heck, I don’t even like wearing clothing with logos.
I don’t want to be a walking advertisment.

The second mine came in, the first thing I did after throwing the batteries on the charger was replace the strap with my 1″ Domke “Canon Professional” strap. Thin and light, with swivels to maintain a comfortable orientation. It’s cheap, too – I recommend it.

Um, Precision Camera is not owned by Adorama unless they bought it from Jerry Sullivan and his wife in the last couple of months and I didn’t hear about it. Jerry told me in late September that their 5D MkII wait list was over 35. When I spoke to another higher up there a few weeks ago, he said the list had swelled to about 60.
Precision has my pre-order deposit as well, but I know I’m not very high up the list, so I’m not really expecting mine till early to mid February. Earlier would just be gravy. :)

I live in Mexico and I haven’t pre-ordered anything at the moment.
I have a friend who lives in Brownsville, TX. You think it would be a good option ask him to order it from Precision Camera tomorrow morning instead waiting BH to put them in stock someday during the next week… or be the 100,600 or 900 (i don’t know) on the queue list from Ritz Camera or somewhere else?
I’ll appreciate your comments.

I’m glad to see the 5D Mark II was from our store, http://www.Precision-camera.com from Austin, TX.
We have gotten two shipments so far and are getting another one next week. We hope to fill all back orders by December.

The class he is talking about is put out by Photoflex to many photo dealers. They look similar on both of our websites, that is what the confussion was.

PS:
We seem to be getting more lens kits in than bodies at this time. Not sure if this trend will continue. We have handed out every lens kit on pre-order. The next lens kits in will be for open stock.

Does Precision Camera have the Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip for 5D Mark II?
I’ve got a camera coming next week, but need the grip.
