the mkIII is simple actually, that’s the beauty of the camera. Its simpler to run than a mkII, the Custom functions are a little complex at first, but they are all self explanatory.

I’m aware of the G9, just a little observation to those saying that Japanese camera makers would not use the unlucky numbers 4 and 9 in their models.

I think canon will really focus on the AF system (obviously), more ISO performance , slightly higher Megapixels, and better card performance.

the 1d III really is amazing, now if they could only bring the prices down!!! the 1d III is so complicated, I can’t imagine many people have really mastered it even by now.

the camera is fantastic, and i look forward to their revisions. I believe it is unfortunate that people complained about the 50D, i just got one and I love it. the ISO noise on 6,400 and 12,800 is bad but if you expose properly out doors in a non dark shot there actually is little noise… the actual image quality is amazing and the metering seems to really capture the dynamic range perfectly. anyway just my 2 cents which are only worth 2 cents.

The numbers 4 and 9 are considered unlucky in Japanese: 4, pronounced shi, is a homophone for death (Ã¦ÂÂ», death?); 9, when pronounced ku, is a homophone for suffering (Ã¨â€¹Â¦, suffering?). See tetraphobia. The number 13 is sometimes considered unlucky, though this is a carryover from Western tradition.

In modern Japanese, the digits are called with the on readings except 4 and 7, which are called yon and nana respectively. Alternate readings are used in month names, day-of-month names, and fixed phrases. For instance, the decimal fraction 4.79 is always read yon-ten nana kyÃ…Â«, though April, July, and September are called shi-gatsu (4th month), shichi-gatsu (7th month), and ku-gatsu (9th month) respectively. Intermediate numbers are made by combining these elements:

I guess that means there will never be a camera called G9!

This is in response to the questions “what about the Mark 4?”. In Japan, version 4 products are rarely released for the basic reason that the number 4 in Japanese language stands for “death”, and so to use such a number is frowned upon. This is the same reason why there are no 4th floors in buildings in Japan, and why Fujifilm went from the S3 Pro DSLR to the S5 Pro DSLR. Same reason.

The top display, if it isn’t considered obsolete by then (re: 5DMk2 control screen that is so useful), will not be OLED. The idea of the top screen is something that uses next to no power. Wrist-watch tech fits that bill. If Canon wanted to get fancy, I could imaging them using a digital paper display (like the Kindle or the Sony reader) instead, but I am sure that uses more juice.
