Henry’s Pulls the 5D Mark II From Their Site

It was pointed out to me that Henry’s (Canada) has pulled the 5D Mark II from their web site. Why? Not sure. It could be to get people to stop inquiring or a database booboo.
We’ll see.

With all the news of Canon not being able to fulfill orders, this move just screams that Canada won’t be getting 5DIIs for a while to come. Between Vistek and Henry’s, there are few brick and mortar camera stores that I can think of that cater towards more expensive gear.

I hope Canon doesnt sell out canadian photographers and shops by mainly suppling the US market. I pre ordered mine Nov 17th and was told i would receive the camera mid december. I am shooting a wedding abroad and unfortunately i sold the clients on the idea of a hybrid photo/video concept. I simply did not expect the release date of the Mark 2 to be pushed behind this late…
I now totally understand how a professional shop like B&H does not allow customers to pre order any items. this type of behavior on canons part causes allot of frustration for professionals who depend on a timely shipment of gear. Lets face it nikon is creeping up behind Canon and service, built, and now megapixel are all if not better on par with canon.
I am however a recent convert to canon and expect the partnership to be without too manny bumps. Although i must say that i have heard horror stories about canons lack of customer service.

It is funny it was there yesterday around 3 pm EST. all the accessories are still there.
maybe the ill order teh new nikon and get both cameras at the same time…sorry just grumpy

@dennis – with the current situation, I’m not sure this is your best quote so far… Even if I have mine, I’m still pissed off at Canon because they can’t deliver to everyone.

things don’t look good for people who haven’t received their cams yet… I thought I would get mine for sure before x-mas, I’m not so sure anymore. If henry’s took the cam off their website it means they know they won’t be able to deliver.

Sigh…
I just spoke to the Henrys store that has my deposit and spoke to the manager. He was the most informative to date… bottom line though is I’ll probably not see the camera till January. I ordered in early Nov.
I take him at his word and he says Canon is shipping most of the units to the US.
They have pulled it from the site in order to stop people being disappointed.

Production number for my cameras are 4000 something for the first and 6000 something for the second one. Adorama and Ritz told me that both got 1000 cameras in last Friday and worked on packing etc over the weekend. My orderspots were 23 with Adorama and 110 with Ritz.

Tomorrow is the day of release for many stores (espacially in Quebec), so wait and see, but if only a few 5DmII are available this friday, it doesn’t sound good !

I hope that all of you, that are waiting for one will get one soon. I too have waited and know the feeling well.
I wish that canon distribution would work as well as apple distribution does. Apple announces someting and voilla, next day you can get it everywhere. However, it seems the 5d mark II is more of an exclusive product and not as availalbe. Ebay usa has about 30 to offer and ebay germany for instance offers only Hong Kong models, so no distribution over there either.

I pre-ordered mine back in october with Lozeau. I called them up yesterday and they told me that they had just received 8 of them… I asked them where I was on the list; no response was given and the horrific news about 5% of the overall stock was being shipped to Canada. The good news though; “we will be getting shipment every week”. Hopefully I get mine before February!…

The first Canadian 5d mark II on ebay appeared on Nov. 29th.
Still active at 250334224128 out of Calgary.

i worked pretty hard at henrys for a deal…i am willing to wait for the cam and keep my deal as opposed to the higher price and right now…so I want it now at the price i am paying…

I was looking at all the USA bodies sold on ebay for $3400. Thats a $700 markup. I’m tempted to sell mine.

interestingly, if you look up “nikon canon” on craigslist you’ll see that most people are switching from canon to nikon and only 1 or 2 from nikon to canon, just an observation.

Got mine today from Henry’s downtown Toronto. They only got 12 in today. I ordered on Sept 20th and was #17 at the store at the time.
Can’t wait to get it out of the box and charged up!

Don’t think we won the 5DII lottery this week. I asked was told there was a few come in as Trish confirms. Looks like they did not go to either you or I or to online orders for that matter. Tired of not having a camera.

It is pretty pathetic when we cannot get one of these from a Pro store like Henrys, Vistek or the likes in Canada but you can buy one off the shelf in the US at Bestbuy

Well I am looking for an address at Canon Canada to send my thoughts. Needless to say they are not real pleasant, Canon is not doing anything for us who have invested in their lenses. I have only a few but 17-40 f/4 70-200 f/2.8 IS and 50 f/1.4 not to mention the 430 EX etc and other trinkets is enough to discourage moving. Or is it?
I feel like we are second rate citizens, from all accounts we have seen 100-150 cameras across the country. I have read many different forums online taken with a gain of salt of course. But when someone can walk in off the street to a local pro shop in NY without a pre-order and have a camera in hand, or worse yet Best Buy who took no pre-orders and cater to masses and not those with investments in glass.
To say I was peeved after reading about BB would be an understatement.
Off to Canon.ca to see if I can find a place to send a polite message :) Looks like CSAT (Customer Satisfaction) may be spelled NIKON if this does not get resolved soon.

Still waiting too….
I’m amazed that they still have not outfitted the Canadian shops. Henrys has a 7 to 14 day delivery period (which came up once they put the camera back on the site)- Strange since some folks (like me) are “on the list”
I better get one soon – or I’ll drive to Buffalo

I have entered a case in the Canada tracking system to get answers. I participate on dpreview as well and it has been suggested we all do same. The total lack of information is appalling. The fact that pre-orders are ignored and distribution to big box in the US is taking place is even more aggravating. I am on the list as well #8 so I am told last I checked Dec 1. I guess Henrys has received < 8 since Dec 1. The folks there are as much in the dark as we are so I cannot blame them for the lack of info.
For what it is worth I have checked the stores in Buffalo none show stock and the thread on dpreview echos the coverage is spotty.
I am not sure I have the same patience as you, much longer my bag goes to my local retailer to see what they will give me for things with a Canon name on it and a Nikon will be in my bag. They make FF sensors too.
