EOS 3D Back in the saddle
From [POTN] via [NL]
The new camera will have a “radical new AF system” that I do not have any information about.
I am unsure about the information I got… either it will be just 2.0 crop or 2.0 and 1.? crop.
Soon to follow will be F2.0 IS zoom lenses. I believe this is why the reason for the 2.0 crop mode.
Of course super high ISO and the fastest FPS seen in a DSLR camera yet. Sounds like this will be for sports users for sure. I am guessing that most cameras will have GPS and Wifi by then so you can expect that too.
Oh yeah, no CF card slot. SD or maybe a new card format? There is talk about built in memory too.
Please remember, this IS a rumors site! I brought the ranking system about so I could report everything without much confusion as to whether or not it was legit.
RegisterYourCamera.com
I have no idea how long it has been around, or if anyone has heard of it before. Today was the first for me. It seems like a decently reasonable idea.

I’m glad to know I didn’t steal my camera from anyone.
DXO Site
A few comments about the DXO sensor rankings site from a few of you. I’m not really a fan of it. I’ve seen completely different results with my own eyes.
Switzerland Pricing
Yes, I figured it was just a miscue by the site I mentioned.

A review by regular contributor sfwrtr
I like real world impressions from people. Sometimes review sites get a bit too blase when doing reviews. It’s bound to happen when you do 100 of them a year!
I also can’t seem to get my hands on a production model, so this is all I have to go on.

Thanks for the link sfwrtr
Canon Software
A reader sent in a comment with something that annoys him with Canon.
“What about canon software? Its about time they release a bundle that is upgradeable by the click of a button like all other softwares. Who is not sick of looking through the website for the correct update. come on lets make this happen!!”
Canon Rumors agrees.
DXO Sensor Testing
A reader (our new Nikon guy!) has sent in some impressions about DXO’s sensor testing and what is inside Nikon & Sony cameras.
http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/DxOMark-Sensor
“Now check the D3 (D700) sensor and the Sony A900. Close enough in performance to be identical. D3 (D700) and A900 use the same sensor but use different processing, hence the insignificant difference. How can a 12MP and a 24MP have identical performance? Hmm, if the sensors used in the cameras were identical then the performance would be identical. The D3X uses the same Sony 24MP FF sensor as the D3 and when DXO gets a D3X the test result will be the same. D3 = A900 = D3X. How have your search results gone for a Sony 12MP FF Cmos Sensor?”
To answer your question, I’ve found nothing about a FF 12mp Sony Sensor. I keep hearing from various sources that Sony is manufacturing Nikon designed sensors. I’m not sure if I’m fully behind the idea that a Sony sensor factory is producing stuff that Sony can’t use. That just isn’t a very Sony thing to do. :)
Switzerland Pricing
Apparently the Swiss think so highly of the original 5D, they have priced it accordingly!
Pricing Link
5D – 3115 CHF = $2554 USD
5D Mark II – 2982 CHF = $2445 USD
Thanks Marcel

I know this is Canon Rumors, but the concept of upgradeable camera bodies is one I’d be very interested in.
From a reader
Change the output circuit board and sensor chip carrier (double the data readout lines – channels – enabled) and a D3 can become a D3X – firmware in D3 already had support for 24MP, but the circuit brd did not have enough buffer and processor to handle extra data flow.
D3 to D3X upgrade coming late 2009 – buffer upgrade tested the market. D3X priced at $8000 and so an upgrade can be done for $4000 and that will include shutter replacement = users can claim it is like a new camera.
I have no idea how likely this is, but it’s a cool concept. I wish they could do that with my 1D3!
Ads on CR
I agree with a few folks things have become a bit overdone as far as advertising goes. I moved the one graphic that appeared under the first post to the right side. That takes some eye strain off the post.
Adding Amazon is proving to be worth it, I’m just figuring out how to make it less intrusive. I won’t be doing any more posts dedicated solely to advertising or “great deals”. If I speak of a product, there will probably be a corresponding link if available. I think that’s a good trade-off. So basically, no ad unless you get some useful information.
Thanks for reading!

Let us know
I have yet to handle a production 5D Mark II (boo), so I have no first hand knowledge of the issue. What about the ones of you that have?

Daily Deal – Great Camera
A tidbit of info
Canon is looking to expand their entry level line of cameras. Nikon has grabbed a lot of market share with theirs, as has Sony.
Some features being considered:
Articulating LCD on one model
Movie Mode with AF
A far more consumer friendly liveview mode.
Inbody IS does exist in Canon R&D labs
There is little chance of adding a 3rd Rebel, but they will continue to develop 2 different models

We hardly knew ye
It was pointed out to me that Henry’s (Canada) has pulled the 5D Mark II from their web site. Why? Not sure. It could be to get people to stop inquiring or a database booboo.
We’ll see.
Thanks for the tip
