EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS Confirmation?

I have received the following emails in regards to a post about the 24-70 f/2.8L IS.

I’ve been visiting your page for couple of months. As soon as I found your post about Canon 5d markII with 24-70IS I wrote an email to that store that listed this kit on their website. Today I got an answer. It says, that they were suprised too when Canon gave them price list, but later Canon confirmed this item! At the begining, this lens will be sold as a kit with 5dmkII. This store isn’t new on polish market (they’ve been selling over internet since 2002, the company exist since 1997 – as written on their website, I’ve seen couple of their offers during last couple of years but never bought anything from them), maybe they really know something…

Yesterday You wrote about new 5D mkII kit with 24-70 f/2.8 IS which appeared in polish shop Cyfrowe.pl. I’m an publisher of [EDIT For Privacy] – one of the biggest polish website with lens and camera reviews. Every saturday we publish an article with some rumors from last week. Now I’m preparing such an article and find interesting to write about 24-70 IS. So, few minutes ago I spoke with the owner of Cyfrowe.pl (he is our business partner). He confirmed this is not a typo. 5D mkII + 24-70 IS kit is listed on the official Canon price list. He even spoke with Canon representative to be shure that this was not a typo. Canon confirmed that 24-70 IS will be available soon. That’s all I know, and I hope you will find it interesting

I’m not sure what to make of this type of thing, I’ll keep digging and posting about it.

Cool Factor – Epson R-D1x Digital Rangefinder

I just think it’s cool
Epson has “upgraded” their hot selling Leica mount digital rangefinder.

It comes with an ancient 6mp APS-C CCD, they’ve added the handgrip and a 2.5″ LCD.

Very cool and something I wish Canon or Nikon would make.

Odds & Ends

Slow
Times are pretty slow for Canon info at the moment. All the attention appears to be focused on what Nikon is about to do.

Nikon D5000
Apparently it will have an articulating screen, use the D300/D90 12mp sensor and have a new type of on camera flash. You should be able to bounce it. There’s no word on whether or not the camera will have movie mode.

D400?
Not this time around.

D4
Nope.

I was eager to see if they’d launch a medium format system or a digital rangefinder with an F mount as has been rumored in the past. Not the year for that stuff I suppose.

Ritz Camera Bankruptcy
Apparently Ritz Camera Interactive (The Web Site) is a different company than Ritz Camera (The retail stores). The web site is not part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

The day Ritz filed for bankruptcy they approved my affiliate application. I found that kind of funny. Now I know the companies are different and will go ahead and use their affiliate program. There are a lot of Ritz fans out there! They also seem to get new stuff before a lot of other places.

5D Mark II Availability
If you’re Canadian, I know where you can get a new 5D Mark II body in Ontario. There doesn’t seem to be many around. Email me if you want the info, I get no commission on this one.

I’m looking for a technically inclined person to write tech articles about camera technology. I would require one article per calendar month. The articles could be predictive or factual, that would be up to the writer. The right person would have to be able to write something that would have me confused within 3 paragraphs, then I know it’s good.

500D & EF-S 30 f/2 [CR2]

From an Email

The new Rebel will be launched June 23 along with a new EF-S prime. The lense will be a 30mm f/2 with an EF-S mount. Canon held off on the originally planned 500D release due to the economy and waiting to see what Nikon comes out with………  They have a couple designs of the camera ready to go.

I’m not sure if companies can afford to “wait” to see what’s coming, so I’m not sure what to make of that. I’m going to CR2 this.

Canon XSTi

Say what?
Apparently the Canon Spring Photography contest lists an XSTi as the first prize. You can see this on page 95 of Outdoor Photographer Magazine.

Probable typo? I hope so, that would be quite a mouthful to say.

1D Mark X By October? [CR3]

EOS-1D in 2009
From a pretty reliable source, I’m told to expect a new 1D announcement in the August/September timeframe. The camera will ship in limited quantities by October 2009.

I wasn’t given any info on specs, just that it’s coming.

New lenses?
Yes, expect a couple of updates to big white ones.

Do not expect any consumer grade lenses this time around.

Took The Day Off

Phew
My brain needed to step away from writing about Canon for a day and went out and actually used a Canon today.

Canon Rumors is going to get another visual refresh soon and I have some new t-shirts and stuff on order, so stay tuned for some giveaways.
