Anything Coming From Tamron? [CR2]

What’s coming
Received an email saying to expect 1, maybe 2 lenses from Tamron.
The two possible lenses:
- 24-75 f/2.8 VC
- 70-200 f/2.8 VC
When Tamron wants to do a lens right, they can really pull it off. I’ve owned the 28-75 f/2.8 and 17-50 f/2.8. For the money, those lenses were hard to beat.
I hope Tamron stops with the superzooms, I fear an 18-400 f/3.5-8.0 VC or something along those lines. There are a lot of hobbyists on a budget, and would love more lenses like the ones mentioned above.
Sigma, Tokina and Tamron could both become big players in the lens market if they improve quality control and release lenses we ask for. With the DSLR market exploding, there’s so much money to be made.

tamron would do well to make a 5.6 version of the 200-500 zoom… if they add VC to it that would be heaven… as long as they nailed the optics… at that point price wouldn’t even matter as much since it would be such a unique offering… unless of course Canon finally wakes up and makes this lens (NOT holding my breath)

If Canon ever wakes up and makes a 200-500 4-5.6 or 4.5-6.3 type lens, you can be sure it will probably sell for north of $2k (just because). OR, it will be a EF-S style lens (like the EF-S 55-250IS)
I could easily see a quality Tamron/Sigma in the above stated range for about $1000~$1200.

heh. I’ve got the tamron 17-50 2.8 but the 18-270 is a great all around for 80% of the time.

They have a lot of superzooms (18-200, 18-250, 18-270), one would do!
17-50 is a fine lens, they’d have a big winner if they VC’d it.

Well think of it this way. Those super zooms make Tamron a lot of money to potentially fund the design of some nice potential higher end models that will not equal the super zooms return on investment. I think that Tamron is going to be making a killing with their latest super zoom in the weakened economy. A lot of amateurs that would, in times of economic certainty, burn a bit of cash on some higher end lenses will instead pick up the Tamron that will serve as a jack-of-all trades lens.

I had the 200-500 F/6.3 zoom. I won’t even consider a similar product. In that price range, my Canon 400mm f/5.6 just blew it away, so I dumped it.

Would be GREAT to have Tamron making those two lenses.
- I hope they keep the high image quality, and add Optical Stabilizatio (or Vibration correction, or whatever they would like to call it) and also add USM AutoFocus.
- The 70-200 2.8 has no VC nor USM AF.
Also its AF seems to be consistant nor much reliable, according to DPReview’s tests.
If they build those two lenses in a Professional way (since they are aimed to Pros and serious Amateurs), they could beat the Canon and Nikon versions in terms of price/performance ratio.
- Another really GREAT Features to adds would be:
. MACRO caability
. Weather sealing (so important to keep the gear last longer)

Yeah that would be great..
I’d like to see 17-50/2.8 VC from Tamron….or maybe while at it, they could improve the range to 16-55/2.8 VC…..that would be great!
And hopefully, Tamron would introduce their USM version…

While my (limited) experience with Tamron or Sigma lenses is not too great, I sure do hope that at least one of the Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM OS or the Tamron 70-200 VC become real winners.
That would perhaps make Canon create that 70-200 2.8 II a bit sooner. And maybe even rethink their pricing? Er, probably not.
I’d actually prefer the Sigma because they do have HSM, while Tamron still relies on micro motors for AF drive which are either painfully slow (ever tried the 18-270?) or noisy. On the other hand, Tamron’s reputation and track record regarding AF issues with Canon bodies appears to be better. Any news on some form of new AF drive in Tamron land? How about a Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC TSWD (=Tamron Sonic Wave Drive :-D)?
But the contender to Canons venerable and due-for-replacement 100-400 some folks mentioned here would also be really nice. I will definitely not go for the new Sigmas (120-400, 150-500).

I would buy the 24-75 VC (if that should mean vibration control) in an instant. My Nikon 24-70 is very good and sharp. However, as a corporate event photographer, I’m constantly doing work in very dark conference halls, so some shots at slow shutter speeds could need a bit of stabilisation.
I have to agree, however, that I would be willing to spend three times (4 times?) that money for a 21-85/2.8 VC. That would enable me to let the 14-24 at home (I’m not too keen on the 14-20mm range) and just work with a 21-85 and 70-200 on the other camera. BTW: a nice 85-300/2.8 VC would be nice too. I wouldn’t mind giving Tamron 10K for that pair of lenses.
But, for now, let’s hope the 24-75 VC rumors turns out to be true :-)

I own a Tamron 28-75 and not really waiting for an VC version because I have an 1D MKII which is heavy so an light lens like the 28-75 there is hardly any shake.
If you have an lighter camera like then it is it a good choice because they a lot lighter and I even can keep those completely still.
I have also an 70-200 IS from Canon and it is an really good lense and IS helping to take the shots without needing an mono-pod.
More than 95% of the pictures I take are with the 28-75 so I am a big fan of this Tamron lense.

I have 4 Tamron lenses now. The 17-50mm f/2.8, 2 x 24-75mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8 all are great lenses for the money. Tamron would do well if they got more in the prime lens market. Canon is killing me with the cost of their prime lenses.

Just returned from an overseas trip.
I saw the new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 VC. I was not allowed to bolt it to my camera.
Dealer had a 90 f/2 Macro.
Also, saw the new 200-500 VC. It looks like Tamron improved the optics to max 5.6 vs 6.3.
