mama and I have looked at both olympus and the cannon. We are opting for the cannon. We have ruined two cheaper digitals by just taking the in the fog and rain. Between those two we could have bought this one.

I ordered d10 last week. anytime i can receive it by next week. My main purpose of getting this d10 is for casual use, for places such like snokerling etc, which my camera dslr sony A700 is not suitable to use in places like that.

The design is very subjective to individual. Just like (another man's food is another man's poison). But i like this design very much because 1.The design of its Own not like other camera with a very common design n look common.

How good or how bad, yet to know, til i receive it next week. But i only notice it dont have a Raw File Format.

I just bought the D10 for my mom and after testing it, I must say I'm VERY impressed. It's easy to use (important for my mom - she's 72), and versatile as well. I shot some macros, as well as landscapes with no real work or setup on my part. Picture quality exceeds my expectations for a point and shoot. Durability was important, and while it's a bit bigger than most compacts, the size isn't too bad.

I scuba dive, and I would use this over my Sea Life DC-1000 but I didn't see a waterproof case that can get me to 140 feet. If Canon offers a case for this, I'll definitely by one for myself. For mom - this is a perfect little gem that just can't be beat!

When will canon wake up to the real world. Who are these designers?
the SLRS I wrote to them 4 years ago saying they should put a multi view screen on them live view. Now nikon had beat them to it. I keep telling them to design I good waterproof camera and a housing to match up to 40 mts with a round lens port to use with WA underwater lenses. Oh Boy , why ate canon so stubborn. I am becoming put off by them now. This thing the D10 I have looked at my customers . Its horrid . OK for winter sports. Scratches easily . And No housing . As its to compact . The flash is far to close to the lens. Hay why not have two flashes one either side .

Great discussion guys.

I took my Olympus 770SW (tough's predecessor with a 10M /33Ft waterproof rating )in to a 6 metre deep shark tank at Cape Town's Two Oceans Aquarium some weeks ago. When I reached the bottom of the tank and tried to use the camera it wasn't working. When I got out it became clear that the 6Metre depth and pressure had ruined it, despite the 10Metre rating... not good.

I'm about to replace it and am considering this new Canon D10. If anyone actually has one I'd love some feeedback. The Olympus had a HUGE delay time between depressing your finger and the shot being taken, not great to 'capture' much. Picture quality was alright not great but any measure.

Thanks!

I agree. I bought an Olympus 8000, took it back in 3 days because the pics were terrible. Had to pay a 15% restocking fee, but I didn't care. I don't care how much fun it is, if the pics are lousy what's the point?

Key for me will be to wait and see the reviews of Canon D10 picture quality against the Olympus 8000.

Im expecting Canon to win

Then its down to cost for a final decision which to buy

Yes Sadly No Housing and it looks like something from ro bo cop.

Do Canon really think of who is wanting these camera and for what reason. Do they ever listen to the feed back the public give. I am still using the a640 , have flooded 2 that was costly . have written to canon and also been in to canon marketing here in malaysia. And they still are not being practical.

You may say why don't I use and SLR with a housing. They are to expensive and to cumbersome to do macro micro underwater photography. In Malaysia all the life is small. So a compact is much better to use. Use less air too. Now I need a water proof camera that goes to macro fast IS 3200 12.5 MP flash over ride to use with my Inon and a good depth of field F16 or lower. Not just the F8 that I have been using. fast easy white balance.
The punch line A GOOD HOUSING WITH ROUND FRONT LENS PORT SO YOU CAN ATTACH OTHER LENSES> The water proof ness of the camera is just an insurance A refectory inside the housing or fiber optic bit to direct the flash to an external one. That would be cool.

So after playing w/the Olympus SW/Tough cameras a bit, I like the location of flash and lens on the Canon more...but why no underwater housing! 33 feet is nothing! I hope the next model will have housing then it would be worth the purchase. I really think Canon dropped the ball on this one… guess I will wait and continue using my A510 and DC-60 case… Anyone tried any other underwater camera and housing duos for underwater photos? Mine is old and slow and its time to upgrade!
