This is an obvious camera to take on Panasonic’s TZ7. A lot of you asked for it, Canon delivered.

SOLD!!! I can ditch my SD800IS now. Loved that camera… BUT… I also had my eye out for the Panasonic TZ7… Now I don’t have to buy a VCR maker’s camera.

This one sounds like a good carry everywhere P&S to take with you if you can’t or don’t want to lug around your DSLR. Now give it reasonable high ISO performance and make that lens good.
BTW: What I really miss is a worthy replacement for the Ixus 90… that little thing’s level of stylishness is just awesome: All metal finish, etched out buttons on the back, just great.
The Ixus 110 IS which is supposed to replace the 90 is apparently a plastic-fantastic. :-/

No expert compact with raw. It’s disappointing…

Didn’t know CHDK supported DigicIV (yet).

This looks fantastic (both specs and visuals). My only concern is that it doesn’t have exposure bracketing. Otherwise I’d seriously consider it as a replacement for my G7 when it dies. Zoom range is slightly more than I need, but much better than the pathetic 140mm on G10.

Direct competitor to the newly announced Lumix DMC-ZS3.
Canon had better brings it’s A-game because Panasonic has been making much better cameras in the last 24 months.
The DMC-ZS3 has better specs, but lets see how they perform in the real world. Panasonic was smart to market the video as AVCHD Lite. I’m glad Canon decided to release this one.

The RAW format is on the G9/G10 and now SX1.
Canon probably estimates the users of the compacts will not want to process RAW images and leaves it out.

Do they make underwater housings for these series of cameras?

The lack of zoom during video and the auto-pop-up flash (possibly even always pops up) makes me look at the ZS3 first. If the IQ is good enough on the ZS3 (and early shots look good), then I’d say the SX200 is a camera that should’ve been out a year ago.
