explain why or reread my post.
what did I ask for that would be 5000 dollars?
ONLY Center point AF - not tracking, no multi points...
NO shots per second - ONE shot at a time....
A body similar to a vivitar 3800n or nikon FM10 - no frills
no live view, no video, nothing...
just a very simple camera aimed at "retro" folks that want a serious return to basics and students that are now forced to buy a film camera for a six month class that they will mostly never use again...

you could use old 5D chips (no R/A costs to recover - just profit)

No reason this would have to be so expensive at all...

Yeah, you keep dreaming, maybe in 10 years...

Now, if you say 5000 bucks, that one you might see in a couple years instead.

i would have to see the sensor's output before i'd get anything like this, as cool as it seems. if the sensor was competitive with noise levels and tonal rendition, i'd probably buy such a product.

I wonder if it has any shutter lag? Every digital compact I have tried suffers from it, but they were all autofocus...

Oh wow, Seiko-Epson has updated this and it's for sale again? The previous versions were becoming something of a hot item due to the fact that they were no longer widely available and those wanting a digital rangefinder like the M8 were stuck with...well...Leica and it's price.

I've seen some really good images on Flickr taken with Epsons.

with the small sensors and awful ISO performance the M8's are just not worthy of the lenses they wear...

The camera I'd be intersted in seeing from one of these companies is a digital K1000 type camera...
12MP - Full Manual - Two Dials - one f/stop and one shutter speed and a bright clear LCD that would allow you to see the results of your work. A magnesium body would be nice but not necessary. FULL FRAME. with a bright viewfinder and a nice split prism view finder. 1 shot at a time. No AF or (probably better for us getting older people) a single center point AF spot....
somewhere around 500 bucks with a 50 1.8 as the kit lens
very small - simple - stop making kids buy crappy fm10 nikons and vivitars for their classes. Give a "retro" feel for those that shot simple old 35mm in school when they were kids...

If Canon or Nikon made something like this, there'd be a lot more support behind the system.

The Leica M8 & M8.2 are still broken. If Leica does a FF M9, sign me up.

I wouldn't necessarily prefer a Canon or Nikon, but I do prefer something that doesn't cost $4000.
