Forget about upgraded cameras till 2011 (exception will be SONY - lots of new stuff and start of price competition with Canon especially in PS realm, which will also hurt Nikon's sales and margins badly). Survival will be the name of the game for this year and next. By 2011 only Canon will be left to compete with Sony as Japanese Camera manufacturers. Nikon does not have the funds or depth that Canon does and will be absorbed by Canon (finally will be able to get Nikon designed AF glass on Canon DSLRs). Sony will absorb Hoya, Cosina and Leica's Camera division. Panasonic will no longer produce digital cameras by 2011.

Japanese exports dropped by over 50% in Jan. Now this news article further shows the deterioration of the camera market. Read and weep:

Flash memory company Spansion files for bankruptcy

Struggling flash memory maker Spansion Inc. and its U.S. subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sunday, in an effort to restructure $625 million worth of debt as the company continues to explore a possible sale or other alternatives.

The news comes a week after Spansion, one of the world's largest makers of chips used in digital cameras, cell phones and high-definition televisions, said it would slash its global work force by 35 percent, or 3,000 employees.

Demand for flash and chip-based memory is on the decline as sales of electronics which use Spansion's chips dip amid the weak global economy.

I am particularly pleased to hear that you are actually making some money from this site. There are many sites out there (e.g. twitter, youtube) that actually get a lot of attention, but in fact they just burn lots of money.
CR has become a valuable source of information to me, and now I am more confident than evere that it is here to stay.

Keep up the great work!
Hendric (Vienna, Austria)

PS: We do not have any Kangaroos in Austria.

I'd like for a articulating screen for my 5D II, it would allow me to frame very low hand held shots, or ones with the camera up high, insteading of just point and hope!

I find the DXOmark site ratings to be the best available information about the sensor. All the sensors are rated exactly the same way, so as much of the variable as is possible is taken out. Their rating does not include a lens, or raw processing software. Any in camera processing of the raw file will be included, but that is usually minimal.

The lens used, and the RAW software, and the skill of the post processing person can have a huge impact on the final image. DXO only compares the sensors with each other.

Looked over images at DPR and also compared to my own. It's somewhat subjective, and yes Canon once had a much bigger edge.

I don't care too much about any "articulating screen". What am I going to do with it? I have been playing with my new 5D-II for more than a month. Totally LOVE IT! Don't read too much into DXOmark site's rating. It is very misleading. Comparing my D700 and 5D-II, I will definitely rank 5D-II on top of the D700. The benefit of 21MP over 12MP is dramatic. Full Frame + ~21Mp (don't increase it) is a perfect spot. Improve the ISO noise will be a good thing to do. But for now I am happy as it is.

The only thing piss me off is that I cannot buy an extra LP-E6 battery. No one has any stock for it! I do not know what are the morons in Canon Sales are thinking? Forcing users to buy the battery grip instead?

I don't agree with the Canon having better high ISO IQ. Have you looked at DXO Mark? Canon used to blow Nikon out of the water in that area, but times have changed.

That's an expensive first dslr! I think 1080p video is a bold feature.

Both companies' lines have benefits and disadvantages. Canon has better high ISO IQ and color reproduction. Granted you can fix some of this in post.

A few things to watch for on the 5D2: when making small print/web output from RAWs you have to sharpen way more than you'd expect to (assumed because of the high MP). Also try shooting twice as fast as you'd need when hand-held. I notice blur a lot more on this camera than with lower MP.
