UPDATE
Ooops…. Canon USA pulls the plug on the cameras, no longer on the web site.
New Hotness from Canon
I’m not sure if this is official or a web site gaffe, but 2 new cameras have appeared on Canon USA’s web site without a press release.

I don’t think this should have come out quite yet. DPR doesn’t have the press releases up.

You mean the new DSLR won’t come out yet, or that the news on the new P&S models might have been premature?

Premature I think, no other Canon site has them listed.

So there’s still a chance that we’ll see the rumored “500D / Rebel X*i” announcement today? ;)

Arrrgghhh, can’t wait! I guess this means we have to wait until it’s morning in Japan. I just checked and it’s 5:34 AM in Japan right now…

All I want to know is if they’ll record audio in stereo…if not I think I’ll be getting the Panasonic zs3 when it comes out.

Hmmm…. Some more HD video. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe Canon will undercut the 5D2 video capabilities and add it right now to their Rebel line…

yea…but are they going to make it 1080 or just do 720 to compete with nikon but not 5d mkii?

Very good point. We’re seeing HD video recording all over the place even in the lowliest P&S models (see today’s announcements from Sony, FujiFilm and Samsung). It doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect that a $600+ DSLR should at least have 720p.

yep….it’ll definitely have some sort of video… I just hope they keep the 12mp sensor and use gapless microlenses… that way they higher up model (50D) will have more mp and thus be “better”… yea, not holding my breath on that one… Canon shouldn’t have put the 15mp sensor in the 50D and they definitely shouldn’t be putting it into another camera, but as usual they aren’t going to listen

Yeah, but capturing video with a p&s camera doesn’t make you look like a dork ;^)

It’s funny because when I saw this last night, there were already a few reviews by “people” who already had the cameras

I think Canon removed the cameras from the comparison page…

You better believe it. Otherwise that is the lamest announcement in a long time. It makes Photokina look not lame.

These are the predicted (or leacked) announcements before PMA, rigth?
Maybe the Rebel is for PMA.
Hope there are lenses too, and … a 3D (I know.. I’m dreaming)

You may be right… I see a ton of P&S models now confirmed and no DSLR in sight. I guess we’ll have to wait. The problem is I wanted to buy an XS or XSi to take picture on a trip I’m making starting this Saturday… It might be the worse moment for that now if a replacement (and ensuing lower prices) are just around the corner :S
