For the sake of all the MKIII owners I'm glad. I got a MKII the moment it came out. I was in no hurry so I decided to wait on the MKIII and see what was up because I would have needed to sell my MKII. I'm sure many current MKIII owners are glad they bought when they did and many made the right decision but personally I'm glad I did not. I'll be betting they get the MKIV right the first time and I'll be ordering it as soon as it's available. X my fingers....

In the case of the autofocus, it is certain that Canon did not know what the problem was. They discovered and fixed several things with regard to stationary subjects, but could not reproduce the problem of moving subjects after taking thousands of photos. They asked for input from photographers as to what conditions were causing the problem. It turns out that several conditions were needed. Among them, very high temperatures and very bright sun or bright backlighting with a subject moving towards the camera while it was in AI servo mode. The lens aperture needed to be wide open, or the problem might be masked by the depth of field. Since many users were not photographing under these conditions, they were happy and did not see a problem. The hardware and software involved is extremely complex, so I hope it is fixed now.

I'm like you, I've been holding off, and now that I have a 5D II which performs perfectly for me, I may not get a 1D series.

I vote PS. That image shows the min. distace to be 1.5m where the 135L has 0.9m ... I doubt that would change.

That and it looks fake

>the people who’s saying that canon have to release the new 1D are just waiting for the price drop of MKIII, i 100% bet that they will not buy the MKIV when it came out

I 100% take that bet ... and will 100% take your money. I for one am waiting for the 1D4 for two reasons (1) the retail chain is depleted and the stock available may be of dubious vintage, and (2) after the time it's taken for Canon to iron out the issues with the 1D3, we're so close to the 1D4 as to make a little longer wait almost a no-brainer.

in this type of strategy both canon and 1D/s MKIII owners will benefit from it. the people who's saying that canon have to release the new 1D are just waiting for the price drop of MKIII, i 100% bet that they will not buy the MKIV when it came out and canon knows that. no MKIV until the stock of MKIII runs out, same with other models. some users are treating canon that if they didnt came up with new model they will switch to nikon, when you switch to other brands you have to sell all your gears, youre not reducing canon users then it will not affect the sales of canon. wake-up, canon is wiser than you.

> It seems like they have learned that fixing problems doesn’t bring more attention to the problem it gets people over the problem.

As long as the 'fix' is just that, the fix. But to an outside who's put off buying the 1D3 in part because of the AF issue, it seems that Canon lurch from one fix to another. Almost like they don't really know what the root cause is. That doesn't exactly engender faith in prospective buyers.

Hopefully this time they've nailed it. I do hope so for the owners of the cam. As for me, I've put it off so long that I may as well wait for the 1D4 and not risk getting any old stock still scudding around in the retail chain.
