5D Mark II – Digital Camera of the Year
March 30th, 2009 Posted in Canon 5D Mark II
Engadget Awards
Oh joy. Even after all the hate this camera has received it has won the coveted Engadget Digital Camera of the year award!
Woooooooo!
True, there was some Nikon fanboy vote splitting with the D90 and D700, but who cares… we win!
Seriously…. I nominated the Panasonic G1 as camera of the year and I stand by that. It’s nice to see some real innovation.
Speaking of which; Olympus? Where’s my micro 4/3 camera? I want that orange thing with the 20 f/1.7. It’d be like a new age digital Canonet QL17 GIII!

Overlooked (Thanks for pointing it out)
The fine folks at Engadget chose the Nikon D90 as the digital camera of the year!

Engad-what?? You have to be kidding…
The only award I (somewhat) trust is the EISA awards, which are elected by a wide panel of european specialized journalists, since 25 years.

There may be some equivalent reputable awards in America or Japan but, common… Engadget? ahah.

Totally!
Anyone who follows Engadget posts would realize they are Nikon fanboys, so it’s funny the readers picked the 5DmkII over their personal bias.

You’ve added too many o’s; it’s just “boo”.
I will not mention the five or six other spelling, grammar, punctuation and semantic errors that you managed to fit into a six-word sentence (if it may be called a “sentence”). Were you trying for a record?

How much ads has paid Canon to publish the camera of the year!!?… the more ads you pay the better!…
Here in Italy is impossible to buy the 5DMKII, seems that Canon is trying to maintain the price in some way.

Do you know that in Italy we still can’t buy it? Because not many of them arrives in our country.
I bought a 5D mark II (and it had some blue pixel in the video mode, so it’s under repair now) but many of my friends can’t buy a 5D mark II in Italy, it’s a real shame for Canon Italia.

Most of the haters are people who don’t own one, and complain about everyone and everything. That doesn’t mean that some real owners aren’t having problems, but most actual owners seem happy, including me.

sounds good.
but cant afford it because canon put the price up a lot.
according to some camera shops in Aus, from 1st of April, 5dII will be 100 bucks more(from $3799 to $3899). up again at 1st of may, maybe another 400 bucks more.
the above prices are based on AUD.

Who cares about engadget? It’s an obscure little site anyway. ;)
Popular Photographer chose the Panasonic G1 as camera of the year, and rightly so.

Note that the D90 won the editors choice award, not the 5DmkII. Thats from people who actually tested both.

Well done Barnyard. The D90 did win and the peoples choice is from people who only bought the product. I doubt anybody actually owns both to have a fair comparison. Poor form from CR for not pointing this out.

I didn’t know there were editor choice awards. I was more just joking about a silly award.
If the D90 won, then that’s silly in itself.

D90 or 5DMKII?… Is not possible to compare both cameras, different price range, different use, different target customer, a night and day in image quality difference…

The 5Dmkii won the readers’ choice. The D90 won the editors’ choice. I would hope the editors are in a better postion to judge than the readers, but it is Engadget we’re talking about here so who cares?

Editors pick a camera that is ~$900.
The readers pick a camera that is ~3x more. Just goes to prove that money can’t buy intelligence…
