Jog Wheel
One source swears the new Rebel will get a jog wheel.
Bounce Flash
A few emails have come in claiming the new Rebel will have a bounce flash on top. Wishful thinking? It appeared previously for a Nikon D5000 rumor. I don’t see Canon busting out a radical departure in the world of camera top flashes.
Articulating Screen
Everyone I ask says not to expect one on the new Rebel. They’d rather the large 3″ VGA screen.
I think it’d be a great idea to add one. A lot of people are pretty passionate about having one. Perhaps remove it and movie mode on the Rebel XS successor.
GMOS
The next “G” camera will be CMOS sensor based.
“You will see an announcement before you think.”
That’s it for now.

Joy
The folks at DPReview have released a hands on preview of the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II.
Read it here: http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/canon_24_3p5_tse_c10/
Apologies to DPR for the previous critical point of view of a certain aspect of the preview. Apologies for the lost comments as well, pressed delete instead of edit. grrr.
I can be overcritical of DPR, as I feel they are with Canon. :)

Back from Canon
I sent my 1D3 out to Canon Canada on March 3, 2009. It has been shipped back and I should have it today. If I notice a significant difference in the performance of the camera, I’ll let you all know. I feel my camera was already performing to spec.

From Amazon
The first batch of the new PocketWizard FlexTT5′s are shipping from Amazon. It appears they still have some in stock. The MiniTT1′s are now shipping as well.

And again
Two emails today telling me to expect a new EF 50mm f/1.4 II USM to be announced alongside the new Rebel. One of them went as far as to say it’d be image stabilized.
I don’t for a second believe the lens will get IS’d.
I know the 50 f/1.4 has been backordered for a couple of months at a few places in Canada. However, Canon doesn’t appear to be stocking much in Canada at the moment and everything is backordered. Two months is a long time though.

Just to summarize
The new Rebel will be the product announced on the 25th of March. It should fall into our previous spec list.
Still no definitive word on a jog wheel.
Others are speculating an articulating LCD. Could you keep the screen at 3″ and make it articulating on that small body?
Lenses
I’m asking around about a possible lens introduction, nothing yet.
Someone did say that perhaps Canon would launch a “Movie Lens” type of thing. It would be kitted with the new Rebel. Panasonic has done this with the GH1, so that’s probably where the idea came from. I think we’re still too early into the DSLR movie mode development for that sort of thing.

Stoking the Fire
Someone emailed this translated page to me in regards to a March 25
announcement.
I’m on the road at the moment so I didn’t read it too closely.

Sent from my iPhone
Didn’t know it, but it exists
Thanks to the folks at Ardfry Imaging, I was able to test out their .CR2 thumbnailer for Windows Vista 64bit. Like a lot of people, I was waiting for Canon to come up with the software. That doesn’t appear to be coming anytime soon!
Review
There’s isn’t much to say other than how easy it was to install and set up. The software works like a charm.
The coolest thing is it thumbnails my .CR2 files faster than Windows thumbnails jpgs. I can’t complain about that.
The software is available for .CR2, .DNG and .NEF for the 64 bit environment as well.

Not everything is negative
The xxD line of cameras was expected to be on a 1 year product cycle after the launch of the 50D a year after the 40D.
One more person piped up this evening and said everything isn’t doom and gloom. Still expect a 50D successor sometime in the fall. The 40D will be done away with and the 50D will remain a current model. There was no information as to whether or not it would be a APS-C camera or not.
