Update
I have been corrected, apparently all rebates start on Sundays.
thanks John
Joy to the money
Received an email today in which someone claimed a retailer let them know the rebates would begin on Monday. Some kind of combo program.
i.e. Buy a 1Ds Mark III and 800 f/5.6L IS and receive $50
….. ok, hopefully better than that.

Canon is holding on to this tech!
Apparently Canon is working on a full line of professional monitors using SED technology. There has been promise for years and years about Canon branded SED televisions. Lawsuits and other issues have prevented the technology from seeing the light of day.
Until now?
I guess if you’ve spent the money they have on R&D, you have to give the marketplace a chance.
From Peter Putman @ NAB 2009
“I was asked on more than one occasion about the chances of Canon’s SED making a comeback, something I would not have bet money on after the Nano Technologies licensing debacle. However, a source within Canon told me at the show that the SED is still very much alive as a pro monitor technology. Indeed, a Canon SED engineer from Japan was quietly making the rounds in the Las Vegas Convention Center to scope out the competition.â€Â

CR’s Take
This goes along with our original report that Reuters in Canada had signed NDA’s for a new Canon pro body.

Free Upgrade!

"Good-bye cruel world"
Canon Canada repair depot has replaced a broken XS with an XSi at no charge. The XS had a broken Main PCB assy(CG2-2259-000) and it was backordered for a month or so. Canon Canada sent a new XSi as a replacement.
This is probably a very good sign production of the XS has ceased and there’s probably low stock everywhere.
2000D/T1 excitement builds!

"I like to add lines to your photos"
Another QC issue from our friends at Canon
To Owners of the PowerShot G10 digital camera
Thank you for using Canon products.
We have discovered that in rare instances, lines may appear in images captured by some units of the PowerShot G10 digital camera. Accordingly, we would like to convey the details and our service policy concerning this phenomenon.
We regret that some of our customers may have been inconvenienced by this issue and would like to offer our apologies to them. Canon will continue to strive to provide our customers with high quality products that they can use with confidence. Thank you for your kind understanding.

From the world of interesting concepts
I received an email from someone claiming Canon has video dslr lenses on the horizon. How many? They didn’t say.
The concept is this; the lenses will have the manual controls a lot of videographers want… i.e. an aperture ring.
CR’s Take
Other than being a cash grab, I’m not sure why Canon would do it this way over a firmware update. Perhaps an adaptor with an aperture ring? A nice $200 accessory Canon can bilk you for!
I’m filing this under “unlikely”.
This IS a rumors site. I’m going to give you most of the information I get. With the new ratings system, it’s up to you to decide how viable it is.

More fun specs!
A source from earlier this week has piped up with a new spec list for the T1/2000D.
Specs:
15.1mp
7 AF Points
ISO 100-6400
3fps (Not sure if that includes RAW, current 1000D is 1.5fps)
720P @ 30fps
2.5″ Articulating Screen

On the set
I’ve received informormation from a few folks that the new 5D Mark II firmware is on location on the Iron Man 2 set. Apparently the cameras are in Morocco at the moment.

A bit more info

Spend the savings on your significant other.
It appears the 70-200 f/2.8L will have a $200 rebate and there will be an $80 rebate on the 24-70. I’m sure other “L” glass will be included as well. I haven’t seen the 100-400 or 35L on a rebate program in a while (in Canada), it’ll be interesting to see if it shows up now.
I would expect to see a “buy more, save more” type of rebate program in Canada as well. The current rebate scheme is pretty lame.
I have no information about rebate programs in Europe. I rarely hear about those before they happen. Feel free to let me know if you work in retail.
thanks steven
