Canon didn’t really announce the vid features until they released the camera and it is a prototype throw-in.
This camera is more than worth the price for the stills alone.
If you can’t appreciate the tech : price ratio here and aren’t out creating, then you are the only one to blame.
There are workarounds available and real movie makers have always worked harder than you can imagine with much lesser tools.

Canon poses a great question to us all.
What are you gonna do with this thing?
Stop whining peoples.

They still need to fix the low ISO banding that is still there even after the last firmware update, let alone the video controls. I was hoping that the 5d2 wouldn’t be another disaster like the 1d Mark III but I was wrong. The 5d2 is a great concept, but poor quality control and pre-release testing will make this another black mark on Canon’s line of cameras. Lucky me I have both a 1d3 AND a 5d2.

Let’s put it that way, I need Manual Control for my work. The reason I put this amount of money into a still camera is the video mode. If Canon does not offer any solution within 6 months I will get rid of my 5 L glasses and two bodies and switch to another brand.

surprise no one is trying to reverse engineer the firmware and hack to better specs.
i am sure it is hard. but i am sure someone can do it…

I really hope they add the 25p!
it s simply not fair for us european customer!(we paid the same price…)

It’s a shame they don’t give us manual control. They advertised the movie feature like crazy so why not deliver?

As mentioned many are using non-Canon lenses to have manual aperture control. However I really love Image stabilizer so I’m affraid I have to stick to Canon lenses… (for less than 50mm I use M42 lenses though)

We paid a lot, we have one major complaint and all they do is…… MAYBE release a new cam which means ANOTHER investment by us?? ugh.

agreed, but they still don’t quite seem to get it.
sure they have our money and the marketing dept. is clinking glasses. but maybe a year from now when we are too disgusted too stick with canon and nikon has the same high MP sensors with low noise all the people who have gotten too annoyed by their games will leave. already at the sidelines you certainly see more and more nikon.

as someone said fool me once, but not twice. Canon marketing can do what they want and toy around with their customers and we can also do as we want and walk away to other brands….

if you believe that it would be a big project to at least just add Av mode or even M mode to video then they have succeeded in suckering someone. it’s an absurd claim.

I agree with this post regarding the pixel race. I truly hope the 5D2 firmware update remaps the medium sRAW setting from 10 to 15 megapixels.

If they include aperture control in the 60D video feature-set, I don’t see why they couldn’t easily put it into the 5D Mk II as well. Especially if both are using the DiGiC IV processor…both bodies would be single-processor designs and would probably run 98% of the same firmware.

If Canon doesn’t implement it into the 5D Mk II, this would be a HUGE screw-up on their part, ESPECIALLY if they plan on keeping the 5D Mk II around for 3 years (like they did with the 5D).

However, if they plan to have a 5D Mk II replacement ready to announce in January 2010, then regardless of what the 60D does, we won’t see any new firmware features added to the 5D Mk II.

It’s time the megapixel race ends.
I was hoping the 5d2 was going to be
an improved version of the 5d’s.
I want better pixels not more,
- more dynamic range
- less noise
- higher useable iso
since they added video
- give me manual control and auto.

the only thing keeping me from buying the
5d is that it doesn’t have sensor cleaning,
my 30d was always dirty… my 40d
nothing yet, so as much as I want ff
I’ll wait till till they fix the 5d2′s problems
or release a replacement(5d3, 3d, 7d)
