Canon T1/2000D June? [CR2]
April 13th, 2009 Posted in Canon 2000D, Canon Lenses
Rebel T1
We will see a Rebel XS replacement announced in June. I was told the current XS will remain current while the XSi will be discontinued over the summer.
We’ll still have 3 Rebels for Christmas. The XS could reach the $400 price point. I still think that’s a little unrealistic.
The T1 will not have a movie mode. It’ll basically be a rebadged XSi.
Lenses?
Not likely before the fall.

Man.. I really want to buy the 50 1.4 but first I want to make sure that no successor is coming any time soon.

By one now, used for $290. Sell it used when a new one arrives for $250. You’ll have the lens to use and play with until something better comes out and will only shed a couple jacksons. My 2 cents.

I thought the XS/1000D was already around $400? Even at $400, it’s overpriced for what it is!

You are crazy, the XS is a great deal. It has all the features you need for a bare bones entry level DSLR at a perfect price. For the price point it has no competition that can touch it.

Agreed! At $440 my XS was a tremendous deal, the perfect first DSLR. I will move on to higher end cameras for sure, but for a first-time buyer the price tags can be pretty intimidating and I think the XS offers a LOT, considering the very substantial savings over the XSi.

Wow, Canon are really pitching for the entry-level DSLR market.

Think about that. With the nowadays world wide economy, Canon made the perfect choice. They want to sell the max of cameras, or maybe just to sell. A 2000D with his crop sensor is much easier, faster and cheaper to build instead a 1DS. FF sensor still very expensive to make and to sell, not much ppl buy these pro cam.
Next, more ppl buy entry-level DSLR, more will buy EF-S and EF lenses, it’s just the perfect way to reach for Canon. :)
In following this, ppl will buy first an => entry-dslr => ef/ef-s lenses => then later get expert or pro dslr => and “L” lenses => … :)

If this rumor about the T1 is true…being that it would have the same specs minus the video capabilities…i’m there! I was going to stick with the XSi because spending the money for mostly the video capability didn’t make sense as i probably wouldn’t use it.
Hopefully some more truth will come out soon about this rumor.

I think it would make more scene to call it the 475D or something. If you make the 450D the 2000D then the 3000D has to have all the features of the 2000D and more. If you want the xxxxD line to be the bare bones low cost line then I do not see a need for added cost features like IR remote and IR face sensor to cut off the LCD when you face is up against the viewfinder.

Why in the heck is the XSi still up at a street price of $700 with the kit lens? With the replacement model coming, it should be time for Canon to be cutting us some bargains.
