I would love 24p in a sub $2000 camera. Then budget, student, beginner cinematographers have an great option for wonderful entry level gear. I wish i could get a 5D Mk II or an XL but a cheaper option with awesome lenses could be a great compromise.

woo if it is announced in fall then it’s 2 years to get an upgrade. not that bad IF 50d was a good one (in terms of IQ)

8fps thank you !!!I might go back to Canons now; cause I never could afford an 1 D since the 5 DMk II is 3,5 fps ,dohhhh;I bought myself a D 300 that can take real sports picture for cheap but this 60 D is goin to be great!!!!!!

Strange, Here in france 50D body is down to 999Ã¢â€šÂ¬ this week in the popular FNAC store… while 500D kit intro price is 999Ã¢â€šÂ¬ few days ago…. usualy you push down the price with a higher price model…. nothing in the 1500Ã¢â€šÂ¬ price tag here. surprise surprise ? 450D body at 500Ã¢â€šÂ¬, and 5D is close to 2000Ã¢â€šÂ¬

40D body has droped out, but can be foud at 700Ã¢â€šÂ¬ online (not a good deal) … 400D droped out recently as well.

if they improve the processing and sensor of the 50D, and give it all the functionality of the 5D2 now, AND it will get a semi-pro AF…i won’t see the point of keeping my 5D2. the DOF difference between 1.6 and FF isn’t big at all, which is basically why i ponied up for FF in the first place (only to be slightly disappointed).

Yep, I’ve looked at the Helicon stuff. Near as I can tell, stacking to average out noise is a function of Helicon Filter, which is MS-OS-only. I’d only thought of Photomatrix in HDR terms, but I do see how that it mentions blending. Thanks!

As for emulation, VMware Fusion is pretty slick, and the price thing is to a large extent an urban legend.

Every serious user review I’ve seen says the 50D autofocus is better than the 40D. This is likely due to a faster processor and better software algorithms. Of course, I like it to improve to the 1D level, but it is pretty good right now, and any improvements will likely be more processor and software related than a bunch of additional cross type sensors.

The 5D MK II is also faster than 5D, probably the same reason, faster processor and software.
