Good blog. I got a lot of effective data. I've been following this technology for awhile. It's fascinating how it keeps shifting, yet some of the core components remain the same. Have you seen much change since Google made their latest acquisition in the domain?

I've seen at least two pieces of code for encrypting and decrypting the 5DMKII firmware (with the appropriate keys) ... to be honest, that's the easiest part by far. Understanding, modifying and writing ARM assembly code is something different, though, and there are definately less people out there that can do that competently (in the way that would be required to hack the firmware). It's pretty easy just to change the string that contains the firmware version or to turn something 'on' or 'off' ... but to write a custom menu or something like that, though (which will almost certainly be necessary) is definately in a different league altogether. I'll be genuinely impressed by the first person that gets that done, though I'm sure it will eventually happen.

I presure that more engineers/hackers would be willing to help if the procedure for firmware decryption was described somewhere.
