The "lite" version that only triggers the shutter doesn't sound all that useful, but the "pro" version that can show Live View is intriguing...

In the studio, this could actually be quite cool. Imaging setting up the camera on a tripod and beaming Live View to the iPhone - you could walk around, adjusting lighting, model positioning, etc. without running back and forth to the camera to check the latest adjustment - just keep glancing at the iPhone to monitor the changes, and trigger the camera when it's perfect. Certainly not a "must have", but in some situations, I could see this making a shoot go faster, and even changing the photographer/model dynamic.

Well you could always use a Windows Mobile PDA and connect to DSLR Remote Pro (from BreezeSystems) via RemoteDesktop and get the same functionality.

Apple are working on 3.0 update on the iphone and it will enable developers to make/use cables that can be used for this sort of function. I wish i had the time, money and know how to make these things and would watch the cash roll in!

I use DSLR Remote, it is software developed and sold by Breeze. Sounds like a potential copyright issue to steal some other software's name.

In my mind, there are only 3 reasons to upgrade the 1D3...

1. More MP...... to 16mp, matching Nikon at 12mp, won't cut it. (I'm saying 16mp FF because it will have larger pixels for low-light and the through put of data is not so much that Canon can keep 10 FPS or more.
2. Video....full manual control that everyone wants(for those who want video, those who don't...different story).
3. Final fix for AF.

If Canon does not increase to 16mp FF, when there really is no reason to have a 1D4, a 1D3 would work just fine.

And if Canon does not increase MP and also does not include full manual video, then again there is no reason to upgrade the 1D3.

AF....well if Canon goes to the 1D4, without the majority of 1D3 users very happy about the 1D3 AF, and the 1D4 has the AF that the 1D3 should have had, Canon well have a very mad pro user group.

Agreed! When I first read the post, I was excited, but the fact that you need a computer really kills it.

I think all the abilities are there, just the workflow needs to be addressed, so either make a custom iPhone cable that can connect directly to the camera (which should be cheaper than the Canon hand held trigger), or make a custom wireless dongle.

I do think that making an iPhone version should be visually better and a good idea, but that is a lot to undertake. I hope they go for it.
