iPhone Remote for Canon DSLR’s

From: http://www.ephotozine.com/…

New iPhone camera remote from onOne software – Turn your iPhone into a remote control for your camera with the help of onOne software.
OnOne software have developed a new application called the DSLR Remote.

Designed to work with Canon EOS DSLRs, the new wireless cable release is designed to be triggered by an iPhone application. From your iPhone you can control settings such as the white balance as well as using it to fire the camera shutter. If you have a camera that supports Live View you can even get a live stream of the camera’s viewfinder on your iPhone.

The DSLR Remote application is available from the iTunes App Store at an introductory price of $9.99 (The application usually retails at $19.99.) A “Lite” version will also be available for $1.99 that only fires the shutter. The required server software that runs on your Mac or Windows computer will be a free download from the onOne website.

Visit onOne software for more details.

1D Mark IV [CR2]

More FPS!
A possibility for the next 1D is variable FPS based on whether or not RAW or sRAW is selected.

“If the camera is set to sRAW 1 it will be able to shoot 12fps”

Movie Mode?
“This isn’t a forgone conclusion. There is a 50/50 chance we may not see movie mode in the next 1D. If we do see it in a pro body, it will be the 1Ds4.”

CR’s take: I think there will be some kind of movie mode in the camera, I don’t expect anything more than what’s in the 5D2.

Live View?
“A new live view technology exists, we’re more likely to see it in a prosumer body.”

That’s it for now

New Cheap Primes? [CR1]

No IS
There may be a lens launch for the T1/2000D in June.

Following Nikon and Sigma’s lead, Canon could be ready to launch a replacement of their 35 f/2 and 50 f/1.4 lenses.

EF 35 f/1.8 USM

EF 50 f/1.4 USM

It was suggested there’s a possibility the 35 may be an EF-S mount.

The 35L replacement will be coming with a pro body.

Site Updates

Busy today
I’m working on some very tedious stuff for the backend of the site.

Price Watch
I’ve added lenses, flashes and PowerShots to the Price Watch section of the site.

I’ve only listed 3 retailers for all these updates, 100% of sales came from Amazon, Adorama or B&H for Canon Rumors.

I removed Canadian prices for everything other than the bodies.

I may in the future add some international pricing, but I’ll leave it at being in the distant future.

There may be some zoom lenses and PowerShots missing from the price watch lists. For the lenses I posted the most current and in demand products. For the PowerShots, I’ve put up the most recent version of a camera line.

Rebel T1i & D10 Reviews
These reviews will be up before end of business Sunday.

Hack This! – 5D Mark II Audio Control Gain Disabled!

From Cinema5D

Hax0red!

Hax0red!

If Canon isn’t going to do this stuff, others appear very motivated to do so.

“As an early goal, I have disabled the AGC for on the AK4646 audio chip that the 5D uses by overriding the sound_dev_task() at 0xFF856E60 to call audio_set_alc_off() at 0xFF856B14. The level is much too hot due to the wrong levels selected (it defaults to max gain?) but there is no shift in quiet scenes anymore. This is an easy first step that provides a proof-of-concept modification for the 1.0.7 firmware.

I can also log the audio levels as they are being sampled, which will make it possible to do on-screen level meters at some point in the future. My next step is figuring out how to add menus for the AGC disabling, then tackling the MVR_start_record() and LVAE_* functions.”

Nikon Profit Down 64%, Sees Loss Ahead

Sign of the times
Will we see this same sort of report coming from Canon?

TOKYO, May 13 (Reuters) - Japanese precision equipment and camera maker Nikon Corp (7731.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Wednesday annual operating profit fell 64 percent, hurt by weak sales of chip-making machines, and it forecast a tumble into the red this year.

Operating income was 48.2 billion yen ($495 million) in the year ended March 31, beating an average market estimate of 42 billion yen from 17 brokerages surveyed by Thomson Reuters.

For the current financial year, Nikon, which launched a new entry-level digital single-lens reflex camera this month, forecast a loss of 12 billion yen, smaller than an average estimate from analysts of a 17 billion yen loss.

The world’s No.2 maker of chip steppers after Netherlands-based ASML (ASML.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has been hurt by spending cuts by chipmakers amid a prolonged downturn and is looking increasingly to its cameras to cover the shortfall.

Steppers are multi-million dollar machines used to scan circuitry onto silicon wafers to make semiconductors. Canon Inc (7751.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) also competes in the market.

Shares of Nikon shed 58 percent in the year ended in March, while Canon lost close to 39 percent and Olympus Corp (7733.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) lost 48 percent. (Reporting by Mayumi Negishi; Editing by Edwina Gibbs)

Harry Potter & The 5D Mark II

From Planet5D
“the crew working on the next Harry Potter movie has 2 Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras on set for filming. And, they’re using Panavision lenses on the 5D2s.”

Read more here: http://blog.planet5d.com/…

That’s Iron Man 2 and Harry Potter apparently using the 5D Mark II’s. It’s safe to assume updated firmware is being used.
