I have sort of read the articles. What I miss is a complete overview of settings on the cameras used in the test.

I know that it is possible to vary sensitivity of the AF to a large degree.

I have no reason to doubt Rob Galbraith, but I would be more comfortable with the conclusion if there was a complete list of the settings on the camera.

I think Rob's analysis is solid, but 99% of users may not be anywhere near as disappointed with the results. If you are moving up from any Canon body except the 1D MKII N, the 1D MKIII will have better focus performance than your current equipment. If you are coming from an XTi or a 20D, you'll think Rob is crazy, becuase the 1D MKIII will shoot circles around the older units.

I shoot sports professionally, and I somehow survive with the 1D MKII, the 5D MKII, and two Rebels.

Did I see Nikon ads where Canon ads once where on RG's site? Gee he's becoming the Pop Photo of the internet world. Take money from Nikon and Nikon can do no wrong and Canon can do nothing right. This mantra has worked well for Pop Photo for years.

Well if you take people's names out and look at how how Canon is/has handled the situation you see,

There is NO problem then, O yes there is a problem.

You get fix 1, 2, 3... and now its oil.

Next the 5D II issues (I won't list).

Remember you paid for it to work the way they advertise and state in the specs.

I think quality is failing...

Why the personal attacks?

It doesn't matter who Rob Galbraith is or how good a photographer he is in the real world. What matters is if his tests/evidence to support his claims are logical and valid. Obviously there is a lot of debate about this, but that is where the debate should be focused. In any case, he's not the only one who observed strange behaviour with the III shooting specific types of subjects under certain conditions and therefore he's not the only one with evidence to support these claims.

At least he actually used the cameras, as opposed to many forum and blog commenters who don't even own, let alone have even used one.

At least on 30D the s*** happens at around 24mm. At 200mm I couldn't fault it for accuracy.

"There are way to many companies that put out crap that dosent work"

I think it is too much talking about the Canon 1D and for a problem nobody else has been able to reproduce...

And if you think a company is not listening to you or selling good products, you can always go to its concurrent, and Nikon is here for that.

PS: Concerning Microsoft, I switched to Mac and as I am not the only one... they had to take it into account for Windows Seven. If people stop buying Canon, Canon will listen. However, at the moment, I see NO reason not to buy Canon products.

Agree or disagree there is nothing wrong with someone driving a company to produce a better tool for us to buy. There are way to many companies that put out crap that dosent work (microsoft) but are simply to big to care about the consumer problems. Canon has been great in how they have addressed these problems as well as the 5DII's shortcomings.

There are actually two real questions:

Who IS Rob Galbraith ? (Honestly, he may be a "famous" photographer but... a famous unknown).

And more importantly:

Who CARES about Rob Galbraith opinion ? If he is such a good photographer and is not able to get the best of his camera...

"Tools are always too bad for bad worker" used to say my father.
