Charitable Donations – Peru

June 9th, 2009 Posted in Ad Post

Hey All
I’m heading to Peru next week on a photo expedition as well has some humanitarian stuff.

I’m seeking donations so I can purchase Children’s Multivitamins for a couple of schools in Cusco. I have a lot of local donations.

If you’re in, click donate. 100% of the money raised will go to Paypal for their fees and to the purchase of multivitamins.

Thanks for reading, back to the rumors!

you’ll have a blast in Peru.

just make sure you personally know the people you’re handing the goods over to, otherwise it’ll probably just end up sold on the streets a few moments later.

Why do you want to buy multivitamins for children in Peru,
they have so much (and cheap) fruit, that is much more healtier then some pills.
Donate the money to the schools so they can buy fruit everyday for the children.
Anyway, have a very good time in Peru, it is a beautifull country.

Even “cheap” fruit is out of the reach of a lot of families. It’s a country with 54% of its population below the poverty line.

Vitamins also have a long shelf life.

Give a fish to a man and you will feed him one day.
Learn him how to fish and you will feed him all life long…

Would agree that I am not sure vitamins are the best long term investment. But in all cases, nice initiative and have a good trip.

Good initiative! The people in mountain villages really need vitamins (pills or fruits).
I recently came back from a trip in south Peru (I’m from Sweden). Take a look on my picture project: “The people in south Peru” http://www.paraniak.com/peru/ and you might get some inspiration.

Have a nice trip, I think you going to love it.

Some great shots there, especially like the child in green with the rock wall.

I’m very much looking forward to it, just been banging my head about what to bring. I think I have it sorted now.

I just came back from Peru last week… the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. If you make it to Chinchero, go to the weaving co-op and say hi to Vilma and Paulino. Some of the nicest and most generous people I’ve ever met, who are doing amazing things for their community.

Just a heads up, when you goto Machu Picchu they will look at your gear and will freak and ask for $300 US for a photo permit. I was there last week and they looked at my 1dIII and lenses and said that I couldn’t take any of it in! Not one bit, I asked to use my film body and like my 16-35 but they said no way:( They said it was on my ticket, that “you can’t be professional or have professional equipment” and it was. Pity my hotel got the ticket for me and I didn’t get it till that day :(

I ended up being allowed to take my Holga in but the woman was highly suspect about my medium format film……..

Anyway, it’s an awesome place. I can’t fault them or get angry. It’s there place and they have the right to set the rules anyway they see it.

I noticed that this is not the first time at all that you write about the topic. Why have you decided to touch it again?
p.s. Year One is already on the Internet and you can watch it for free.
