I had no problem, I brought about 50 bottles of vitamins and stuff for arts and crafts.

However, I didn't get searched at Lima airport. You press a button... green is go... red is search. Completely random.

People do it all the time, I can't see it being an issue.

Hi,

I'm going to Peru in three weeks and will be taking stuff I bought to donate like clothes, toothbrushes and vitamins to a childrens shelter. I want to know if there is any fee or permit for taking new stuff in quantity?

I will appreaciate any information.
Thanks.

I noticed that this is not the first time at all that you write about the topic. Why have you decided to touch it again?
p.s. Year One is already on the Internet and you can watch it for free.

Just a heads up, when you goto Machu Picchu they will look at your gear and will freak and ask for $300 US for a photo permit. I was there last week and they looked at my 1dIII and lenses and said that I couldn't take any of it in! Not one bit, I asked to use my film body and like my 16-35 but they said no way:( They said it was on my ticket, that "you can't be professional or have professional equipment" and it was. Pity my hotel got the ticket for me and I didn't get it till that day :(

I ended up being allowed to take my Holga in but the woman was highly suspect about my medium format film........

Anyway, it's an awesome place. I can't fault them or get angry. It's there place and they have the right to set the rules anyway they see it.

I just came back from Peru last week... the most beautiful place I've ever been. If you make it to Chinchero, go to the weaving co-op and say hi to Vilma and Paulino. Some of the nicest and most generous people I've ever met, who are doing amazing things for their community.

Some great shots there, especially like the child in green with the rock wall.

I'm very much looking forward to it, just been banging my head about what to bring. I think I have it sorted now.

Good initiative! The people in mountain villages really need vitamins (pills or fruits).
I recently came back from a trip in south Peru (I'm from Sweden). Take a look on my picture project: "The people in south Peru" http://www.paraniak.com/peru/ and you might get some inspiration.

Have a nice trip, I think you going to love it.

I just took the chance to support you on this nice initiative. Hundred times I have visited your site and this way I can say "thank you" for the remarkable effort you are driving to collect the information and making it available to us.
Enjoy the trip and maybe you will share a couple of pictures with us afterwards.

greetings from germany

Give a fish to a man and you will feed him one day.
Learn him how to fish and you will feed him all life long...

Would agree that I am not sure vitamins are the best long term investment. But in all cases, nice initiative and have a good trip.

Even "cheap" fruit is out of the reach of a lot of families. It's a country with 54% of its population below the poverty line.

Vitamins also have a long shelf life.
