Olympus E-P1?

Cool
Sometimes I post stuff about other brands. Stuff I think is cool.
These may be leaked images of the new Olympus Micro 4/3 camera. I think I’ve had it on preemtive preorder for 6 months. I’m quite eager to see it.

Amazing post!!!
It’s not screw up. It’s about to be open mind!
And why wait or expect a Canon version once Olympus ALWAYS did it so well with their rangefinders and point-and-shoot?
For those like me who are not so crazy to get a M8, a Olympus like that would be a good one to have a ‘digital vintage’ feeling! hehe!
and Sigma has done beautifully with their DP2 and its larger sensor.

I’d certainly hope that Olympus has finally been able to come up with something I would use. We need a rangefinder type with large sensor and interchangable lense. I do not believe a fixed lens camera with a fixed focal length will have a large following. When you have to plunk down $500 or more, it needs to be more versatile.
They made great 35mm compact cameras, and the lenses were suburb. In the late 1990’s it looked like they were well on the road to being the best digital camera maker, but their insistence on the unreliable smart media, and then the XD memory were just a sympom of the wheels coming off the wagon. If it requires XD memory, I would have no use for it.

Oh and Ed, it has already been confirmed that it used SD cards, not XD.
Can you use the micro 4/3 panasonic lenses on this thing?

So I guess M-mount lenses can be used via the previously announced Panasonic adaptors, right?

will this be like a G series with interchangeable lenses?

The sensor is larger than that of G10.
There is no flip-up mirror in the optical path, so the camera can be a lot more more compact than a dslr.
Rumor has it that Canon may have something similar in the works. Maybe an APS-c sensor cam with interchangeable lenses that could take smaller lenses optimized for a non-mirror optical path, and ef/ef-s lenses with an adaptor. But I haven’t seen anything on that for quite some time.
I loved my old Olympus stylus epic with its 35 2.8 lens. It could even shoot some nice Velvia. Ahh… those were the days…

And if it has a body as tough and durable as the compact Olympus TOUGH series. That would be awesome

Really Cool, I’ve heard it will be announced on June 16th. It’ll be perfect if it has HD movie mode. Can’t wait to get one.

this looks like a Leica M8 (don’t screw me Leica fans!), I bet the designers got the idea of simplicity and compactness from viewing a Leica. Could be very useful to have in our pocket when scouting for venues ;)

I actually find the Oly more appealing. In fact, I believe it will be popular among female photographers (brad Pitt of the Cameras sort of speak).

I’m using Oly Zuiko’s on the 5Dmk II.. GREAT lenses.
I also used the OM4 which is still the best 35mm body ever imo!
Its TLL is fabulous and its something I miss on DSLR’s :)
I’m not into the Oly DSLR’s but this one looks nice. :)
If it excepts the old Zuiko’s with an adapter it would be heaven. A 21mm F2 on that sucka :)

The sensor is still pretty small though.
2x crop.

True… looking through my OM10 viewfinder, I keep wondering how back in the day Olympus & others made 35mm film _SLRs_ that were pocketable-size, complete with optics that that would today be called “micro”… that was normal size back then!

I know what you mean.
Back in the day, I had this tiny Canon point and shoot with a 24mm prime lens that I won at a trade show.
The lens was very sharp.

It’s quite ugly (compared to the Leica, although less compared to the Panny equivalent), but I guess it’s the quality that comes out that’s most important. That will be interesting. Does it support RAW?

Thats pretty cool, but I was hoping it would look like this. I’m sure this one is entirely a concept model as there are no markings on the top, but I really liked the design.

This is an interesting camera. Apparently it can take canon FD lenses with an adapter (no glass elements), already available on ebay. Now those f/1.2 could come back to life again. Also it can take Leica M lenses. The Panasonic one is already out and does all of that. Samsung is developing an APS-C version of this.
I also hope this camera means the extinction of the cr**** PS cameras. 1/2.5″ sensor is a joke.

Perhaps a bit gratuitous to add this here, but it is now official.

Personally I like it with that 17 mm 2.8 pancake as a starter kit. Sweet.
