A less expensive FF?
A chinese forum apparently had a post about Jackie Chan filming a commercial for the Canon EOS 7D. The forum pulled the thread.
Specs that were also pulled:
15mp FF
13 AF Points
Dual Slot
DIGIC V
CR’s Take
I have doubts a more affordable full frame option would have anything other than the autofocus of the 5D Mark II.

Rumors Disclaimer
We’re getting into the crazy time for rumors. I’m going to be posting stuff that will probably be far fetched. Remember this is entertainment and pay good attention to the CR rating. I hope to provide a lot of CR3 stuff over the next few weeks.

Canon has announced a firmware update for the 50D:
Please be advised of the availability of a firmware update version 1.0.7 for the EOS 50D digital camera.
Firmware Version 1.0.7 incorporates the following changes.
1. Corrects a phenomenon where captured images may tend to appear somewhat magenta depending on the scene.
2. Fixes incorrect indications on the Arabic, Romanian, Spanish and Ukrainian menu screens.
Firmware Version 1.0.7 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.6. If the camera’s firmware version is 1.0.7, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
This update is available at: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos50d/firmware.html

UPDATE
The 7D rumor that was here briefly was supposed to remain a draft in WordPress, not get published… apologies for that.
60D Rumor
Someone claiming to have seen the final proofs for the 60D brochure says these are the specs of the upcoming 60D.
I’d love to see a photograph of the brochure. All submissions are anonymous!
Here are some of the specs:
- sensor seems to be a tweaked version of the current 15MP sensor (better
DR, better high ISO IQ, eliminated pattern banding at high ISO)
- 98%-coverage, 0.96x magnification VF
- 3″, 1150K-pixel, active-matrix, organic LED display (25% higher-res than
current 960K screens)
- 19-pt., all-cross type area AF ellipse (basically, the current 1-series AF
point layout w/o the 26-pt. assist AF pts.; the new 1-series apparently will
have an all-new 45-pt., all-cross type AF module; what limits Canon from
drastically reworking the AF-point layout is the fact that all the currrent
Speedlights have AF-assist beam patterns that are designed only for 7, 9 &
45-pt. AF layouts–they just can’t make a new area AF design or add more AF
pts. that easily because of that).
- 1080p@30fps full HD video with full manual controls and contrast-
detect AF, stereo audio inputs
- 7.4FPS@14-bit mode (CIPA-standard testing method)
- new DiGIC V is more than 2x faster than current DiGICIV, enables
onboard processing of all those DPP functions still not done in-camera
with the current cams (i.e., lateral CA correction, geometric
distortion correction, better highlight & shadow detail extraction,
plus new “Diffraction Elimination” function: pixel-level contrast
enhancement and sharpening to counteract aperture-related diffraction
effects)
- AE microadjustment; +/- 3 EV range with 1/6EV steps; separate saved
corrections for Evaluative, CWA, Partial and Spot metering
- new higher capacity, slightly higher-voltage (to drive the faster
mechanicals & electrical readouts for the higher framerate), chipped
Li-Polymer battery (LP-E7), with new, magnesium-alloy framed BG-E7
battery grip with AF-ON and mini-joystick selector buttons duplicated
- lastly, an all-new, pleasantly surprising “feature” that would bring
a smile to all the Canon loyalists (just watch for it) ;)

Joy!
Are you waiting for the launch of the D3000 and D300s? I am! New 70-200 possibly too.
Maybe Nikon will update the worst line of P&S cameras on earth. Canon needs to be pushed a bit more in the segment.
Follow it at my pals site: http://nikonrumors.com

Hands on: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0907/09073006d300Shandson.asp
A new 70-200 and 18-200 as well.
Nothing to change systems over. :)

New pro bodies on the horizon?
I received an email today from someone in the Twin Cities area who works in a higher end retail environment. Apparently they were privy to some information saying both EOS-1 bodies would be discontinued soon if they hadn’t already.
I tried to get this information better substantiated. No luck yet.
Both EOS-1′s at the same time? Why not? They’re basically the same shell with a different mirror box & sensor. The public opinion of the current Mark III’s is less that desired. Canon doesn’t currently have a flagship “wow” camera.
1D replacement? Yes.
1Ds replacement? I’m not so sure.

From NL
Reports are circulating that someone at Canon UK let it be known a new 70-200 f/2.8L IS II should be expected for September.
Canon UK is having a show on October 27th and 28th to showoff all the new stuff.

Amazon says so

35L Discontinuation?
If you check the following link, you’ll see the 35L as being “discontinued by manufacturer”.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009R6WY?ie…….
The worst kept secret in the world of Canon lenses is that the 35L would see a replacement.
Thanks Sean

Panasonic TS1 & Pentax W80 Added
DPReview has added to their underwater camera reviews. I’m glad to see the Pansonic added.
The winner? A tie between the Canon D10 and Panasonic TS1.
My Little Review:
I have used both cameras quite extensively and find them both to be great performers.

I still win.
I prefer the Canon D10 for 4 reasons:
1) Flash performance is better. The larger flash and position contribute to above average performance.
2) The Canon menu system, I’m just used to it.
3) The 33 feet depth rating. I live around some deep water and get down there sometimes.
4) It’s cheaper (before you add the accessory kit).
*Side Note: Dear Canon, why on earth do I have to pay $149 CAD to change the color of my Canon D10?
You should provide retailers with a display stand with the different colors and charge about $30 each for them. Retailers would get a margin booster and I wouldn’t have to feel I’m wasting money for colors I don’t want.
Thanks!
I prefer the Panasonic TS1 for 2 reasons:
1) The HD video. It’s very decent quality.
2) The slim design. It’s a lot more convenient than the D10. I do like the moveable wrist strap on the D10. I’d still prefer it to be slimmer though.

Now the claims start flowing
Received 3 emails in the last 10 minutes claiming to know which lenses are coming.
Canon will launch the 24-70 f/2.8L IS II and 70-200 f/2.8L IS II near the end of August.
Another Take
According to a reader, a pro sports photographer had told him to hold off on purchasing a 300 f/2.8L IS as well as the 500 f/4L IS.
I have a history dating back a fair ways stating we’d see an update to the big white lenses for the Olympics and World Cup.
I was told by an MLB photographer that Canon would be updating their big white lenses over the next “12-24 months”. That was in the fall of 2008.
Take #3
Could this confirm the new L macro rumor from a while back? An email and commenter think so.
CR’s Take
I have no info from credible sources yet, I should see some insight in the morning (EST). I need to really sleep though!
thanks for waking me Dave
