I shoot all kinds of stuff with all kinds of cameras. I am a working photographer who shoots for advertising and corporate client as well as to make images for my own books about photography. Over the last two years I've been using small cameras like the Canon G10 and the SX10 for more and more of my work. In the studio, shooting set up shots or small products these cameras shine by dint of their easy to use Live View and increased depth of field. When I bought the SX 10 it was for the long range of the zoom lens which meant I could shoot anything from a construction site to tight shots of the cabins at the top of the construction cranes. I've done some portraits with studio lights and an SX10 and they were also very usable. I wish the SX 10 and SX 20 had raw file capability but they don't. That just means I have to be a bit more careful about WB and exposure. I've used the SX10 at outdoor swim meets and found that the lens performs better than expected right out to the end.

Convergence makes sense. With FF in both heritage D and heritage Ds I can see a good deal of commonality. But would moving D from APS-H to FF really make for convergence?

I can see room for both FF D (lower resolution, higher frame rate) and FF D (higher resolution, lower frame rate). Hell, even throw in electronic crop on the D, I can live with (or without) that. But would this really call for both lines to be EOL'ed at the same time?

I think the 1DsIV could be a medium format competitor at around 32 mpx with the 1DIV doing nicely at 16. That would be significant differentiation. Now all we'd need are 64 gb Sandisk Extreme V's to handle those 80mb files.

I have no Ef-s glass, not that I wouldn't like some of it,
just that I plan on going FF soon and Ef-s has no upgrade path... a dead end.
now if Canon made the xxD line pro quality, with full weather sealing, pro AF, and a higher grade Ef-s line...

I agree, but if 1D and 1Ds lines are both FF, and very similar they're just developing one camera and two different sensors, plus two lenses and a XXD body, which is mostly a tweak and a little upgrade, not really a redesign like the 1D will be and you're done, seems doable to me, though it might be spread out over a little bit.
