I was not talking from spec wise. I was talking from the mechnical part of things. the sensor size & mirror box difference is the thing that seperates the 1ds from the 1d and as a result the difference of their spec.

now if some one tell me that they are going to produce a 7d with a 16MP and 3fps same body as the 5d mark II then I may believe it.

But an FF with with almost 1d specs for less than the price of a 5d mark II? I will bit now on $100,000 that this will never happen and is not what comming next.

1Ds & 1D are the not just sensor size differences – the 1D is low rez high fps and the 1Ds is high rez low fps – they can keep that distiction with a FF sensor – I doubt anyone buys a 1D because of the 1.3 crop and would not rather have FF.

yes, but the different sensor size makes for much of the price difference. 1d and 1ds are the same if not for the sensor size and the mirror box. but in this case we are talking about the same sensor size (and mabye same sesnor with one that got capped pixels) but with better mirror box, better sealing, and better auto focus system. I don’t believe that any camera that is speced that high will be cheaper in price than the 5d even if it had less mega pixels. This would sound more like a 1d mark IV which will have less pixels but better overall performance…

that might be a good thing! take the original 5D, sensor and all, give it the anti-dust thingy and a new screen, and it could go for $1800.

that would sell like wildfire, but i’m not sure that canon would want to undercut the 5D2 so early in its life. (it’s one year old this month. maybe when its 18 months old?)

i like how cheap FF sounds but sounds like wishful thinking especially at 1200. they’d undermine the 5dm2 so hard if they made a FF for 12 hundo. all the same i wish it would happen

1200-1400 Euros is expensive for that camera. I prefer paying a little more and get a 5DMII.

The 1Ds3 is $8000, the 1D3 is $4500 in the same body – charging a premium for higher rez is already being done. They don’t have to match the D300s & A850 prices exactly, just get it close and between the 50D and 5D2 – hell even if it was $2200 it would sell like hot cakes, and they can come out with an improved 5D3 a year later.

Bottom line is Canon can’t just let Sony dominate the FF market in the $2000ish price range.

Because APS-H was intended to top APS-C back before any FF existed, and at the time it was as close to FF as you could get – hense it became Canon’s pro camera. Now FF is here, competition is releasing it, and prices have dropped on FF so there is no point to keeping APS-H.

1.3 crop ruins your wide angle and it’s not much of a tele advantage and you are limited to FF lenses so you can’t regain your wide angle like you can via EF-S on APS-C. We’re better off with a FF dynamic crop so we can use our wide angle lenses and crop when we want. Unless you want Canon to suck and offer more limited and outdated cameras than the competition, in which case keeping APS-H makes sense.

It’s not supposed to compete with FF, it’s supposed to bury the APS-C cams. Sony is supposed to be coming out with a stripped-out FF cam at around $2k soon, Nikon has the APS-C D300s; I think Canon could do very well with a 16-18MP 1.3x semi-pro sports/PJ/Wildlife cam. There’s no way they’ll sell a 6-8 fps FF cam with high end focusing for less than a 5D and APS-C is nearing a brick wall resolution/noise wise, so why not APS-H?

After reading this, it looks like November release for the 7D FF.
