Wow! This is the 3rd Cannon Elph camera that I have owned. Cannon hit a home run with this one. I can’t seem to take a bad picture with this camera. I use it for work and take pictures all day long under different situations. Everything operates on automatic, the camera even switches automatically between long distance and macro modes. It is able to produce great pictures in different lighting situations, where my others cameras have failed in the past.

+1 yeah, I’m definitely getting one of these. and I do agree post-processing is critical to making an image what it is, and I’d go even further — it’s not a recent thing, it’s always been part of photography. ansel adams PP’ed the hell out of his prints to get them to look as incredible as they do. otherwise he would have been another guy taking [really awesome] snapshots.

I didn’t mean that it (noise/distortion) litteraly comes “out” in post. I met that between technique and composition, post is a crucial means to an end product. Of course the camera is important, but it’s a tool… if you look at any of the recent (digital, jim fiscus comes to mined) great photographers they’ll all tell you it was the development of their technique in capturing that photo, and their process (editing, correcting, etc) in post that ultimately made them famouse, the camera was the tool that got them there, granted an important one. My point of the original post, yes MP’s are important, what’s more important is your aproach, your technique, and delivery. it’s as simple as that. But I’m happy bout the 7D. I’m definitely buying one!

Phil, point taken, but I would differ a bit on the “it all comes out in post” statement.

post-processing is crucial, but not nearly as crucial as shooting it right in the first place.

that being said, I acknowledge for any sort of professional or even portfolio work, the bare bones RAW shot is never the end product.

what are Sigma and Tamron waiting for release a 70-200 f2.8 estabilized version? They need these lenses to cover demands against expensive Canon 70-200 L f2.8 IS.
I think we don’t need that much these 70-300 OS.

I have the non OS version of the lens. It is capable of very nice shots but it is not so good with my 300D or my 40D. I replaced it with a Canon 70-200 f/4. Much better and will focus on my 40D with my Tamron 1.4x with little or not degradation in IQ.
As for the 7D, I think it marks the end of the xxD line.

Good point and I agree that we need to be patient and not assume that high megapixels with a certain sensor size automatically means bad quality. My point was not anti-megapixels as I love my 5d mark II. My point is more megapixels aren’t the cure all. As Phil said below…
“If you can’t compose a photo technically and edit beautifuly in post, it doesn’t matter whether you have a DSLR or a point n shoot, your photos will look like crap, whether you have 8mp or 18.”

Every photographer has different needs with their shooting style but personally I wish Canon would come out with a $1800 camera that shot fast with a high buffer rate in RAW (like 30 frames in the 1D mark III). If that means a 7d with a 15mp sensor verses a 18mp sensor I’d take the lower megapixels.
