there better be a good reason for an extra two week wait … like an extra 3 FPS … per week

perhaps this rumor is as valid as the last rumor meaning it is not valid.

    Ed Reply:

These are just rumors, but they have a good batting record, even if the dates sometimes slide.

Canon probably wants the Sony announcement to happen first so that they can up the EOS specifications a little, or if necessary, go back to the drawing board for a product that competes.

I so hope you are right.

If Sony is releasing A750/A950 cameras with backlit CMOS sensors, I hope Canon has something competitive to offer.

I am tired of limited dynamic range at low ISO for Canon DSLRs.

I am tired of poor dynamic range across all ISOs for Canon. sure we’re better than Pentax, but our highlight range looks like early DSLR technology when compared with Nikons

I agree that perhaps Canon wants to wait to announce after Sony to step on any buzz Sony creates.

However, there is no way they can go back to the drawing board; to re-engineer a product like this takes time…it would most likely push back the release date well into 2010, not to mention interfere with their scheduled 2010 releases.

Canon has to stick with what they got, regardless of Sony. But I’d imagine that the Canon product will do just fine competing against Sony regardless.

People worry too much about the Sony competition. Canon still has a brand reputation in DSLR’s light years ahead of Sony. And no one should panic if Sony releases a $2000 FF, esp if it’s without video. The type of people willing to shell out the cash for a FF will still gravitate to Canon and Nikon.

Perhaps not enough people are showing any interest and they need to leak a bit more to try to stir the pot. Or, they have worked out that enabling video and changing the sticker on the 50D to 60D won’t swing it.

  6. Tom Says:

perhaps the 60D will still be released and the 1D MK IV is what is coming on Sept 1? At least that is what I am hoping!

    Tom Reply:

I meant he 60D will still be announced August 19th.

    Javier Reply:

    I’m crossing my fingers too.
However, I would expect the 2000D be presented too.

On the other hand, Nikon has also presented the new DSLRs before the P&S, but with a few days difference.
    Will Canon do the same?

    Greg Reply:

i like that thinking. we need the 60D

  7. ABC Says:

It’s a shame if they pushed back the new DSLR announcement.

After a while any company just needs to get their product out there and quit worrying about the timing with other companies’ announcements.

In the long run the better product will win out.

The key is to get the news out so that there is ample time for people to become aware, and of course, ample time to get product to the market.

  8. ZT Says:

Why wait if you have something solid and really competetive? This delay looks like a bad sign. Again, Canon knows about the hype building up this August. Why not come up with a simple announcement stating we will reveal two DSLRS on such and such a day and will come up with 5 point&shoots on such and such a day? No specs – just a simple info when a certain category of their product will be completely announced? Whats the problem? We appreciate their products so why not show a bit of appreciation to their loyal customers?

What delay? Are you somehow privy to Canon’s release schedule? Why would they make the announcement you seek if they still have work to do on some aspect – manufacturing, adequate supply, packaging, related media events, other materials or simply filling the channels – of the camera?

    ZT Reply:

I’d like to see that pre-announcement simply because:
    1. I’m a loyal Canon customer with a bunch of their products in my house (and, incidentally :), a fair number of lenses). I have a certain degree of respect towards their products and i expect some respect to myself in that regard as well;
    2. Canon knows about the August hype and it would seem like a good gesture to clarify these things for everyone, rather than helping to build up the hype and feed on people’s expectations. Its simply a bad PR. They gotta do better than that in this kind of economy. Its called customer oriented thinking and is good for your business.

There is no problem at all for me, if the next xxD release will be postponed for 2010. Better get the job right than a beta version of a body upgrade. anyone?

    ZT Reply:

So why 2010 then? Following this logic the longer we wait the better it’ll be. Lets relax for another 5 years and watch Nikon making money NOW.

    eh?

would you prefer to have a 60D next week with “issues” or wait a couple of months, whilst further testing were preformed, and have those “issues” removed.

i remind you of the 1D mark 3 AF “issues”

canon was informed about the AF issues of the prototype but clearly decided to release the camera anyway. hopefully canon has learnt from the fiasco that was/is the 1D3

Oh yeah, a couple of more months will certainly help Canon to come up with a great flawless product. Rrrrright… Since we ‘re talking history here, remind me how many years 5DmII was in development? Following your logic this body gotta be just perfect. Is it?

I passed the point of getting exited, i just want to know either we will get disappointed AGAIN like we did with the 50D or they will respond to sony with a less expensive FF kinda 7Dish thing if not well canon just strapped the rope around their necks.

of course you will be disappointed, so why worry?
Canon is like an ex-girlfriend : you always hope it will work out better next time, but it is just worse :J

This camera is impossible to beat at this price. I won’t write a lengthy review, but, you can set this camera in fully automatic mode and hand it to a “point and shoot” person, and they will obtain fantastic results. For the amateur photographer, this has all of the bells and whistles, what I love is I can reset the camera rapidly for multiple shots of the same scene on very different settings. Married with a decent photo program on your computer, it is possible to achieve professional results.
