I had an offer of the sony alpha 700 the clarety and at 5 frames per sec the performance was beter than my rebel.
I am afraid to say canon is being overtaken by sony
Its no good resting on your laurels'

I just want to add to the debate regarding whether or not a 12MP FF camera would sell. Everyone who knows their equipment and who do this professionally knows that it's the quality of each pixel, not the quantity, that matters most.

21MP is a crowded sensor producing bloated files and 3.9 fps is a joke. Just give me a cleaner 12MP any day. The faster better processor could help with the frame rate limitations then. I could get a high quality shot in low light and fire quick enough bursts not to miss the moment between frames.

For Canon wedding shooters, a camera with the specs of the Nikon D700 but at a lower price point would fly off the shelves. Put me down for two.

Have you tried to use the auto focus for tracking birds in flight, or other objects that are moving quickly and changing distance related to the photographer? The autofocus is no good for those situations.

Granted, I would never try to us a 5DII for that since it isn't designed for that type of work (imo), but it can be considered gimped when it comes to tracking objects using AI Servo. If you disagree than you haven't tried to use it in that capacity.

And by it, I just mean that I was hoping for that type of camera. I don't get what is wrong with that at all.

Um...no. I was expecting it to have the same relation to the 5D that the 1D has to the 1Ds. How naive are you?

What do you mean, you followed their record for some time? I wish you were right, but I'm not holdong my breath on this one. I mean a 7D which is better in pretty much every way than 5D2 except for a lower resolution, and even the latter not by much (21 v. 16 MP will be a convicing argument probably only to landscape photogs)... all at the same price? No way! Would kill most 5D2 sales instantly.

... and definitely don't forget about lens AF microadjustment - that feature alone makes it worth to get a newer version of the original 5D. And of course, the sensor dust removal, to stop it being a dust magnet the 5D is.

I would love to have a direct D700 competitor in the Canon lineup, but it seems that this will not happen this time. But I also remember how much I hoped that the 5D2 would be essentially be a 5D1 with microlens AF adjustment and dust shake, for a price close to $1,800. Of course, its noise level, with the technology now available and used on the 5D2, would be extremely low, beating easily anything from any other company.

Would many buy such a camera? You bet they would! For some, a lower-end but FF camera is important, not everyone wants an improved 5D2, some actually want to be able to afford some type of 5D with new tech inside.

As for FPS, this may not be as important to some as to others. Most important to me would be better AF. Give me a cheap entry-level 5D1 with microlens adjustment and a bit better AF and I'll take it anytime over the 5D2. Not going to happen, but I would still like a cheaper FF in almost any form.
