*UPDATE* Odds & Ends

*UPDATE*

Error 500
If you’re like myself and some other readers, you’ve been experiencing a few or a lot of Error 500 messages whenever you navigate Canon Rumors. I guess this is good news, as I have outgrown the hosting capabilities of my current package. Because of this, Canon Rumors is moving to a dedicated server.

The switchover will hopefully go unnoticed by the end users. It should be completed over the next 7 days.

Thanks to everyone that frequents the site and have made it such a huge success. Growth continues!

New Laser Printers
Adding to its robust line-up of award-winning imageRUNNER systems and helping to redefine desktop productivity, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging and office solutions, today introduced its latest desktop laser beam printer (LBP) – the Color imageRUNNER LBP5460. This model is the newest addition to the Company’s successful LBP desktop printer line, which also includes the Color imageRUNNER LBP5975 and LBP5970, both introduced last year.

Hahnemuhle Adds Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Profiles
I asked Hahnemuhle about 9500 Mark II profiles and they sent me the following email.

“The profiles of the Canon 9500 work on the Mark II, too. It’s the same technology.

My Next Camera
The Leica M9 has made its way into the rumor world. It looks like we’ll see an announcement in September.

There’s still speculation it will use the Canon 5D Mark II Sensor. Others feel it’s going to be a full frame Kodak sensor. As long as it works, I don’t care what’s in it.

The projected cost of the camera is $7700 USD.

I’ve also noted substantial drops in online prices of both 1DIII and 1DsIII here in Switzerland.

Is it me or are those prices ridiculously high for the 1D’s. Those are dollar signs.

There are several other countries in the world that call their currencies DOLLAR. Do you need me to list them?

    I can do that…

Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Brunei,Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Fiji, Hong Long, Jamaica, Liberia, Namibia, New Zealand, Singapore, Suriname, Zimbabwe, and I may very well have left out a few. They ALL use the same “$” sign to denote their currencies, but have nothing to do with the Green Back.

Do the printers come with a direct print button as well? That’s something I’m very interested in on any new Canon products.

I would expect a new Business Model Laser Printer to blow away my 5 year old one, so I was suprised to find that the new Canon laser printer seems pretty lacking in standard features.

My two older Xerox Phaser 6200 DP printers are a bit slower, but come with 600 sheet feeders, duplexing, and network support. I bought the second one used for $200 (with the 1500 page feeder), and both are reliable and never jam. They also have individual toner cartridges, so you only replace the empty one, not a all in one cartridge.

The phasers make resonably good color photos on standard Costo photo paper as well as plain paper. Not full photo quality for display, but great for booklets and brochures.

I’ve been keeping out an eye for a eventual replacement, but this one wouldn’t cut it.

THANKS A LOT CANON RUMORS to provide us a really great site. Very much appreciated (although maybe not by all readers).

For those who use 5D Mark II, the ML 1.0.6 is going to be released soon with many new features. VERY much promising project indeed.

Check the blog and official site for more info.

And thanks a lot again to CR guy for this great website effort. We know it demands lot of time and dedication!

I just need to vent my frustration that Nikon and everyone else gets to announce stuff first. This is either going to be a super awesome LOLcats reveal for Canon, or a craptastic reveal, such as a “direct print button projector” built into a printer or something.

    Yay.

Canon always puts off announcements until the others have announced.

    This is my theory:

They add last minute tweaks that they think might give them an slight advantage over what the competition has announced.

Have you also noticed that their product is usually not available for a couple of months after the announcement?

This gives them time to adjust the firmware to add any changes.

Quite the contrary, I find that Nikon is the one which does the waiting on announcement dates! .I’m not sure where you got your impressions of the availability part. For the last few DSLR launches from Canon: 40D, 50D, 450D, 500D, 5DMkII, I’ve been able to look and touch and try the cameras anywhere between 2 days to 3 weeks of their official announcement. If that is not decent speed, I’ve got no idea what is.

Are you sure you’re not referring to the lenses only ? Those are the items which I find are slow to reach the market.

really? 450D and 5dmkII availability were dramatically late.

    Tupper Reply:

They weren’t late. Supplies were lower than demand in most countries.
