Official Canon Survey
Canon has sent invites to folks to participate in a survey geared towards video in SLR’s.
Survey Here: http://survey.cusa.canon.com/Pub/2wS26J/Link.html
The survey is only for US residents. You can tell a fib and answer “yes” to that question.
It’s nice to see Canon asking for feedback from the users.

From Naturfokus
A new review of the 7D has popped up at Naturfokus.
Summary
“Canon 7D combine very good image quality with a fast and accurate AF-system. I think this will be a popular camera for shooting action. The camera is in many ways closer to the 1D Mark III camera, rather than the 5D Mark II, and a good step over the Canon 50D. I think many photo enthusiasts and pros will acquire the 7D camera. In my case, this will be the first 1.6 crop factor camera, I will bring in my photo bag on assignments and expeditions.”

From Jeff Ascough (My favourite wedding photographer)
Jeff had a 7D and has apparently fallen in love. Yes, he’s a Canon ambassador so he may be biased. :)
Summary
“It can be hard to deduce any conclusion from a bunch of low resolution jpegs on a blog, but this camera will be my main street/travel camera, there is no doubt about that. It produces lovely, very film like files, with loads of detail and tonal range; I just love the ‘feel’ of the files at 1600 iso – they make me feel nostalgic!!”

They Still Exist!
I’ve received word that Canon Canada has received more stock of the Rebel XS and is allocating the camera to dealers.
No discontinuation for the moment.

Carl Zeiss presents the Distagon T* 3,5/18 wide-angle lens with EF bayonet mount
OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 14.09.2009.
Whether shooting the elegant lines of the Eiffel Tower or the vast expanses of the Grand Canyon, both situations require a lens field wide enough to reveal the unique and full dimensions of each image. With the new Distagon T* 3,5/18 from Carl Zeiss, EOS camera users now have an ultra-wide-angle lens at their disposal while benefiting from all the other optical qualities that ZEISS lenses are well-known for. The lens’s extremely wide 99°-angle view is suitable especially for full-frame sensor cameras, delivering an array of new creative possibilities. From landscape and architecture photography to advertising images, cameras equipped with the new Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens meticulously capture once-only moments and spectacular perspectives.
Despite its short focal length, the Distagon T* 3,5/18 ZE has an extremely compact design compared to other zoom lenses in its category. Internal focusing also helps to reduce its size while delivering extremely precise and smooth focus control.
To prevent image aberrations during close-ups, internal lens groups are repositioned individually during focusing in what is called a floating elements design. This allows the Distagon T* 3,5/18 ZE to deliver exceptionally high quality—from extreme close-ups to infinity. Thanks to the ZEISS T*s anti-reflective coating and meticulously crafted lenses, the ZEISS T* is not affected by reflections or stray light. The result: razor-sharp images even under the toughest lighting conditions or with wide aperture settings.
Following the Planar T* 1,4/50 ZE and 1,4/85 ZE, already long cherished by photographers around the world, the Distagon T* 3,5/18 ZE is the first wide-range lens with EF bayonet mount on the market.
The Distagon T* 3,5/18 ZE will be available in autumn 2009 at a suggested retail price of EUR 1,049.00 (excluding VAT)*.

EOS 60D
A battery charger claiming to charge a battery for a 60D has appeared at Best Buy. It could be the D60, or just a misprint.

60D Appears on a Universal Charger
7D Ship Dates

Rebel XS/1000D
The Rebel XS has been removed from the Vistek web site.
A local store has had the camera on “eternal backorder”.
The camera is still appearing on Canon price lists in the US and Canada.
EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS
Canon Canada recently started instant rebates on select lenses. The 70-200 f/2.8L IS was originally part of the rebate program and has since been removed in favor of the 70-200 f/4L IS.
If you see any current Canon literature on the rebate program (I can’t find it on the web), you’ll see the 70-200 f/2.8L IS still appears on some of the literature in background images and the image for the 70-200 f/4L IS is different than the rest of the lenses on the rebate amount lines.
Canon Canada late to know something? Wouldn’t be the first time.
I’ll post pics of this tomorrow, I don’t have the literature handy.
Could be nothing…
Price Watch EOS
I have updated the Price Watch EOS page. It now includes the 7D. I have removed the 40D and G10 from the page.

Not in 2009
Received an email saying we wouldn’t see the new 1D4 until the new year.
Canon will announce the camera shortly after the 2010 Olympics. This would put the announcement into the first week of march.
The games will be used as the final testing of the camera. It’s apparently going to be quite vigorous. It’s Canon’s hope to have the camera in the hands of photographers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
CR’s Take
This sounds plausible. Having a world class sporting event in the winter to test the camera sounds like a great idea. The World Cup is the bigger event.

UPDATE
It has been pointed out that the people involved in the presentation are in fact from Canon Business Solutions. This makes the chance of it being an EOS product remote. CBS does handle printers though, there could be something new there for the photographer.

Coming Soon?
Jeff Brehm, a photo editor and photographer made this statement on the sportsshooter message board.
“I won’t say who told me … but a well-placed person at one of the site sponsors told me last week that the new Canon Mark IV is coming out next month.”
