If you want to point fingers, my suggestion is at Canon. Regardless, this is not a long term slide and it is in fact on the way back up. I would expect the value of the dollar to increase 20% compaired to the Yen over the next 12 months. Bloomberg Finance has show research that proves this thought. I think that Canon is trying to gain additional profits on their camera equipment to help offset their losses in production of Micro Processor Manufacturing Machines, which is historically their biggest profit leader. I hope that Pentax, Sony, and Nikon take advantage of this and lower their prices to grab more market share. Canon has a great set of products, but they shouldn't treat their loyal customer base as a piggy-bank.
