Crazy Rumors [CR0]
October 6th, 2009 Posted in Canon 1D Mark 4, Canon 7D
Oh dear!
I received an email today with an official looking spec list of an EOS 7Ds, amazingly it’s also 18mp!
There is no 7Ds. A 7Ds would be know as a 5D Mark II for the most part.
1D Mark 4
A report from Germany cites a salesman at a CPS store in Regensburg as saying a new 1D would be announced next week. Perhaps the salesman was thinking Nikon D3s.

Bring on the 1DIV, so that people will start selling 1D3s and drive down the price that is.
I’m going to pick up a 1D3 as the 7D has been shown to be nothing little more than a glorified 50D from an IQ point of view.

Joe,
You clearly did not have a 50D and a 7D in your hands… Again a comment without real knowledge or experience.
Having both, I can tell you that the 7D IQ is clearly higher than the 50D.
Get both, try them and only then post comments.
Thanks

Believe what you want, but I didn’t see an appreciable difference is ISO noise between the two. Everything else was great (the build, AF, responsiveness etc) but I was expecting a marked step up in noise handling.

Are you complaining that an APS-C camera has comparable high-ISO performance to a full-frame model? Really?

Where did I say that? I said I didn’t notice much of an improvement over the 50D.

I love how people who have not touched the camera can comment on it’s performance. I have the 7d and the 50d. The 7d is a better camera in every way, including image quality and iso noise. The 50d is a great camera, but the 7d is much better, it’s a night and day difference. In my opinion, much more than a glorified 50d, but what’s so bad about that anyway?

I owned a 7D for about a week and returned it. Glad you’re happy with your purchase. If I shot exclusively at ISO200 and lower I probably would have kept it, but I need to shoot at ISO1600.

And you are getting a 1d3 to shoot exclusively at 1600?? I don’t understand that at all.even if the 1d4 were to come out the 1d3 is not going below the 7d’s price level.
Your argument is fail all over the place. I just sold my 1d3 for a 7d and am very happy with my purchase.

I was going to address your response, but “full of fail” would be better defined by someone who actually sold a 1D3 for a 7D.

Have you tried the two cameras next to each other? Have you had to send in your 1d3 2 times for AF fixes only to have it come back worse (I compared it to a friends 1d3) and have to get it fixed again?
Only thing the 1d3 had over my current 7d is a few extra external buttons and 2 more fps which I don’t need.
For those who care for a response with facts backing it
1) I like the fact I can choose to use a battery grip or not when i’m just taking my camera out.
2) The new AF so far seems as accurate as my 1d3 (but who knows maybe my 1d3 was STILL off)
3) I like the 18mp and if I don’t like it. The 10 mp sraw is not any worse than the 1d3.
4) My batteries are standardized now since I have a 5d2. That’s a few pounds saved in packing right there
5) Flash Master is GREAT
6) I actually use the video for some of my work so again pairing it with the 5d2 is a wonderful thing.
So Joe? how is that full of fail? I miss the validity of your statement.

Oh yeah and I came up about 900$ from the change that i’ll end up putting toward glass or a 1d4 :).
I’m even happier I made the move after I listed all that stuff.
One thing that I do like that i know others don’t is the extra reach of the 1.6x
Could list out others but i’m pretty sure this is enough. If you ever decide to print your pictures too you would be more than happy with the quality of your 1600 iso pictures on your 7d.

I don’t own a 7D as yet (still waiting to be shipped)but i do shoot with a rebel XSI and let me tell you as soonest i saw a pre-production samples taken at imaging-resources i was speechless, IQ wayyyyyy better than any xxD and xxxD series cameras, very close if not better ISO handling than the Nikon D300, Dynamic range a little less than 5DmkII but IQ very similar when you resample the images on same level, HighISO images are very workable with noiseware pro up to ISO 6400 (H expansion not as workable do but images can still be usable ). so there you guys have it and for 1700 dollars canon had offer us 40D,50D,XSI shooters way too much and we apreciate that .. EOS 7D designed by U, made by canon ………. love the slogan too ! FINNALLY ! rest the case already go buy the damm camera and learn how to use it before making a comment !

Another one following rumours from nikon shooters maybe, following up on lab testing (imho) like imaging-resources.com you can compare and clearle and unmistakenly see that the 7D has more IQ thatn the 50D, Hi-ISO images comes very close to 5DmkII and its counterpart Nikon D300, so dont follow comments from people that even (maybe) dont have anything to compare with and stop pixel pepping or you gonna die in the process waiting for the ultimate human eye like DSLR camera, I probably will have good use of a surrogate to go out and take the pictures for you as well !

Ah… beautiful Regensburg. Great city to photograph. However, I’ve never gotten any good advice or information from the different photo stores in town.
