This issue pertains to burst mode.
It is said that a part of an image, shot prior to the one after may appear as an afterimage (like it has been burned in) on the following shot. It is most unlikely that you will notice this effect in a normal jpeg but it is said that it may become apparent when you adjust the exposure, contrast, etc in post.

Look up “vertical banding”. My new 7D has it. At ISO 100. Funny enough, higher ISOs seem to mask it with noise.

Oh sure, besides 9 stop AEB, that is one of the features, canon forgot to copy from Nikon camp. Probably they will show up in 7D Mark II or 8D, as a “first time in canon history” thingy..Lol

Meh. Since this service/issue notice is the first that I’m hearing of it, I’m guessing this hasn’t been a real problem for users at large (or this place would have been ringing with it).

is this an example of the issue? I can’t really see it.
My 7D has a cluster of bright blue pixels in high ISO video mode. I have to call canon and see what to do about that.

I don’t see any problems with my 7D. Have shot several burst mode sessions of my dog running full speed. Any problems with results were more my trying to keep up with the dog, not a camera problem. Still, I may not have stressed the burst mode
enough to reveal this problem in my 7D. Plan to watch for firmware update. I’m currently running 1.09 – which came with camera.

I have one of the very first batch of the 7D.. Never encountered this in multiple shoots of Horse racing, Ski Doo jumps or airplanes landing.. I also have not had a single issue with the 7D.. Owned both 20D,40D & 50D.. by far the best EOS line to date.. My good friend kept his 40D as a backup camera when he got the 7D.. but has not used it since the 7D. These kind of things to happen with all electronic toys.. MY HD Video Popcornhour C200 had many issues when it first came out.. but a couple of firmware fixes.. it works like a charm.. Glad to see that canon is going to address this issue.. I know the people who have this must be frustrated, but it will get fixed.

I think the ghost is because the pixels on sensor will not “cool down quickly enough” and sensor “remembers” the last shot. If i have right, then there is nothing to do with new firmware, it’s a sensor issue. Sensor with a memory – it is an 4-dimensional sensor :P
Canon, thats why we wanted less megapixels from aps-c!

I think you nailed it. Less megapixels from APS-C until you can get the EF-S lenses in “L” quality. Doesn’t do much good to have 100 megapixels if your lens is only good for 10. I’d prefer a 12mp sensor and be done with it. Just make the 12mp better and better, don’t fuss with the numbers game. Think G11.

I bought my 7D on the 9th… I used it to shoot football that night, took my 1Dmk2 as “backup”… haven’t shot the 1Dm2 since and in fact have sold the 1Dmk2, it seemed archaic compared to the 7D… Love the 7D, no problems thus far… at least no problems that I didn’t have with the 1Dmk2… usual user error stuff… I’m shooting stuff with the 7D I couldn’t with the mk2… I shoot A LOT of bursts… Thankfully no issues here! Considering skipping the Mk4 and buying at least one more 7D if not two more…

What has been changed in Firmware Version 1.0.9?
Firmware Version 1.0.9 includes the following fixes:
1.Improves AF accuracy during Live View shooting.
This firmware improves the AF accuracy of the AF mode, Live mode, and Face detection Live mode during Live View shooting.
2.Corrects a phenomenon where in rare instances, movie images shot by the camera may exhibit abnormal colors.
3.Corrects a phenomenon that at certain timings, the shutter cannot be released when the camera’s built-in flash or an external Speedlite is used for shooting.
This firmware corrects a phenomenon that in rare instances, the shutter cannot be released after the AF assist beam fires when the camera’s built-in flash or an external Speedlite is used for shooting. Firmware Version 1.0.8 or later addresses this phenomenon.

Is it possible to lower the CMOS sensor voltage to 0.425V, and double its frequency?
