US Rebates – Fall 2009

Apparently starting this month
Pricepoint claims to know which lenses will be getting rebates in the US. They don’t know the rebate amount however.

I will point out the 70-200 f/2.8L IS is on the rebate list. This lens was pulled last minute for Canon Canada rebates.

Australia Event Invite - October 20, 2009

From Canon Australia
The event on the 20th of October in Australia is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Canon SLR’s. I can’t think of a better way to ring in year 51 than with a new camera.

History Lesson
In case you were wondering what the first Canon SLR looked like, take a peak at my Canonflex.

7D Firmware Update [CR1]

In October
Received a link to a guy claiming Canon would be releasing a firmware update for the 7D sometime in the middle of October. Apparently the firmware addresses an issue with 720p. No word on what that issue is. There’s probably other small tweaks and fixes as well.

Announcement – October 20, 2009 [CR3]

It’s coming (1D Mark 4)
It looks certain that Canon will introduce a new camera on Tuesday Oct. 20th. Most likely it will be the 1D Mk IV, with very high ISO.  Probably as high as ISO 102,400. The camera will have an APS-H (1.3x Crop) sensor.

I have no information on resolution, fps or movie options yet.

CR3?
I’d rate this CR 2.5-2.9.

Very solid source.

Other Info [CR1]
A separate email stated Canon would be sending its entire pro-staff to Vancouver for the 2010 games to promote the camera.

The same email said we can expect delivery date to follow the same timeframe as the 7D.

The last 1D?
As speculated in the past, a couple of sources think this (1D Mark 4) is the end of the 1D line from Canon. We will be seeing only one EOS-1 body in the future. Let the 3D rumors commence.

1Ds Mark 4 [CR2]
Spring time frame for the next 1Ds. It will be 32mp.

1D Mark 4 / 1Ds Mark 4 Info [CR1]

Samy’s
I received an email saying that Samy’s has the 1D Mark 4 and 1Ds Mark 4 in their system. The person also claimed to have laid a deposit down on one of the bodies.

October 20, 2009
Received another email saying Canon was inviting Canon Pro Dealers to an event on the 20th of October. They were showing off some new product.

No info on what exactly was being shown. I also have not received any official email invites to such an event(s).

One thing to consider. Pro dealers are the only ones that can carry imagePROGRAF products.

Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 for EF

Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 ZE

Car Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 ZE

OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 12.10.2009. : The breaking dawn is a special time for photo- graphers. When the early-morning sun reluctantly chases away the still-glistening dew on the trees, this delicate transition between night and day creates moments of calm and anticipation. But without a tripod at hand, these shots will only succeed with a lens that can handle intense light.

Carl Zeiss today introduces the wide-angle lens Distagon T* 2/28 ZE with EF bayonet, suitable for all analog and digital EOS camera models. With an initial aperture opening of 1:2, it is among the most light-intense of its kind in its focal length. From landscape photography at dawn to interior shots with weak lighting and close-up portraits, the Distagon T* 2/28 ZE offers photographers plenty of room for creativity when a tripod is not used. Following the recent introduction of its two ultra-wide-angle lenses, the Distagon T* 3,5/18 ZE and the T* 2,8/21, the new Distagon T* 2/28 ZE is Carl Zeiss’ first moderate wide-angle lens with EF bayonet.

Despite its high light intensity and complex retro-focus construction, the Distagon T* 2/28 ZE has a compact build. These characteristics make the lens a highly versatile and performance-driven tool for all types of photographers. Even with its wide angle, the lens enables photographers to play fully with an image’s depth of focus. With a wide aperture opening, for example, one can effectively separate the motif from its background. With a small aperture opening, photographers can use the sharpness of the lens system for the entire image range. The floating elements design guarantees high imaging performance each time, from close-ups to infinity, enabling the photo- grapher to make razor-sharp close-up images of even the tiniest objects. Thanks to the Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating and meticulously crafted lenses, the new Distagon T* 2/28 ZE deals effortlessly with reflections and stray light. Brilliant pictures work every time, even under tough lighting conditions such as a breaking dawn.

The Distagon T* 2/28 ZE will be available starting autumn for a suggested retail price of EUR 965.55 (excluding VAT)*.

Nikon D3s Specs?

Gah! A Nikon Post!
Yes, it matters what they’re up to. I only post Nikon stuff close to an announcement.

October 14/15, 2009
Nikon will be announcing the successor to the highly successful D3 this week. I’ve received some CR3 info as has Nikon Rumors who has received a lot more :)

The D3s Specs (NR)

  • Better ISO-performance (ISO 200-12800 probably)
  • New 1.2 crop mode
  • Bigger buffer
  • Motion-Jpeg 720p (no 1080p!)
  • Improved AF-ON button
  • Improved multi-dial
  • No 14 fps, I repeat no 14 fps

The CR3 Specs I received (NR has all the juice):

  • Nikon D3s
  • Oct 14/15th
  • 12 mp
  • ISO 102,400

At the moment no new lenses will be launched with the D3s according to Nikon Rumors.

Nikon is really upping the spec game if these rumors are true (outside of the 1080p omission).
