Samyang Delays 14mm f/2.8

Samyang Optics has announced a delay in production of its new 14mm f/2.8 IF ED MC Aspherical lens. According to the company, the delay is due to partial redesigning of the lens construction and further improvements. The lens will now be available in the first quarter of 2010.

It’ll be nice to see the difference in IQ between the Samyang and the Canon version. The price difference will probably be pretty significant yea?

On one hand this is a tautology, since you wouldn’t pay for something that you didn’t get.
On the other hand, the idea that all items are of equal value is absurd.
But this hasn’t stopped people from posting “you get what you pay for” millions of times on Internet forums. I wonder how much disk space this has consumed since 1970.

Haha. Funny. But yes CanonMonster I would agree that the Samyang probably will probably not be able to provide the same IQ as the 14L.
I understand that when you pay more the quality is better. Most of my lenses are L but it’d still be interesting to see. My buddy actually uses a 50-500 Sigma if I remember correct…Sigma either way. And his work has been in National Geographic, so I think Samyang might have a good shot even if its not quite up to par with Canon’s L.

Correction…I should say usually, or most of the time when you pay more the quality is better. Not always a guarantee :D.

Darn, I hear Samyang glass is quite superb among the third parties, just of mediocre build quality and lacking automatic aperture and auto-focus, a great, cheap, way to play with a rarely used focal length and still be able to deliver quality. Supposedly their 85mm f/1.4 is the optical match of the nikkor 85/1.4…

Reviews of the prototype indicated severe flare problems even when a pinpoint source of light was not near the scene. The re-design is apparently to add internal structures and perhaps a hood redesign to work on this.
The price is very low, so it isn’t a competitor with the Canon 14mm, but will allow some who want ultra wide and can’t justify the expense of Canon’s L lens to get reasonably good ultra wide photos.

Ah. I see. Thanks for the info! I wonder if it being a prime will at least give it a decent IQ. Honestly I didn’t even know about Samyang until recently haha.
In better news:
I’m still waiting for the Canon EF 14-600mm f/1.2 L hybrid IS. It might be a little heavy at 3/4 of a pound but its gonna make a great all purpose lens. Rumor has it that they’re working on making it the size of a 24-105mm L.

Oh I don’t know; if Canon replaces in-lens IS with an anti-grav unit it should be fine. ;-)

I have never heard about this company Samyang. So this is good advertising for them… we get to hear that they exist and we become curious about their products. It is too bad that the aperture and focus is manual. Otherwise I would be interested

Many people have alos become fans of Paul Smith Shoes since they came into the market. I also one of them , I very like Paul Smith Wallets and <a Paul Smith Belts,It designs very good.

Could be useful for video, since you do not need AF, and could live with inferior sharpness due to lower resolution. The aperture ring is a good thing too.
