EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens)
43rumors says they have it on good authority that Canon is about to release a Canonet GIII style digital camera with interchangeable lenses.
I haven’t heard even a peep from anyone in a long time about this type of camera.

Too good to be true?
A cryptic message today said Canon is developing their first f/2 zoom. The broken english of the email said the lens would be a “short zoom range”. There was no focal length given.

From Hudson
Magic Lantern is coming to the Canon 7D — the dev team can produce valid, signed firmware images and run their own code on the camera. The first video shows a 7D booting into a test firmware that draws colors bars and writes the ROM image to the CF card for analysis.
Thanks for all your hard work Hudson, a lot of people appreciate it.

USA
We’re been told that a certain business was told by Canon to expect their order of 5 1D Mark IV bodies on December 15, 2009.
Canada
I’ve been told to expect the bodies to be available the first week of January in Ontario. That’s from 1 store, looking for confirmation from others.
EU
We should start seeing them appearing in various parts of Europe around the 15th of December.
Asia
I’ve received no information about the Asian market… as usual, they’ll probably get a few first.
Thanks Mark

From Jeff Ascough
Jeff had a chance to take the new 1D Mark IV on location to a wedding to test the lowlight AF and higher ISO quality. I can’t think of too many people more qualified to do so. He doesn’t use a flash 99% of the time when shooting a wedding.
Check his thoughts and samples: http://jeffascough.typepad.com/….

Camera RAW 5.6 Beta vs Camera Raw 5.5
Photoframd has posted some comparison images of various RAW converters for the EOS 7D files.
“The First” Feature Length Film….

Darwin Wigget’s 7D Review… the counterpoint
Pro Photo Home has posted a retort to the claims made by Darwin Wigget and his review of the 7D.
Pro Photo Home seems to be doing tests at f/5.6 & f/16. I think the issue with the 7D was in the f/8 to f/11 area. Most seem to be saying that diffraction sets in with larger apertures on the 7D compared to the XSi.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but check it out.

Old News, I forgot to post it
Here is Lee’s solution to filtering (some filters) ultra wide angle lenses.
The bad news? You still can’t use a polarizer. There is a company working on a solution so you can actually polarize these lenses as well.

Camera Raw 5.6 also provides a a fix for an issue affecting PowerPC customers using the final Camera Raw 5.5 and DNG Converter 5.5 updates on the Mac. The issue, introduced in the demosaic change to address sensors with unequal green response, has the potential to create artifacts in highlight areas when processing raw files from Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and various medium format digital camera backs.

I was hoping not
I received word from a few folks that the EF 100 f/2.8 Macro has been discontinued. The lens currently still appears in Canon Canada’s price lists as well as Canon USA’s. The manufacturing of the lens may have stopped.
I hope this lens isn’t gone, there’s a big difference between $650CAD and $1300CAD for a 100mm Macro. I own the aformentioned lens, and I have no plans to upgrade.
I’ll look for something definitive.

All that’s needed is a spark sometimes
I received an email in response to the report the November 24, 2009 announcement day had been pushed back until January.
“Yes, it has been delayed until January now, this is the second time this has happened although this time not due to a technical issues but more marketing. If everything goes to plan (which hardly happens to be honest), January will be a killer month for announcements:
1Ds Mark IV together with the new duo of high end lenses. The 70-200 2.8 IS II and of course the 24-70 II IS.”
CR’s Take
The lenses I’m not shocked by, they’ve sort of become the lenses that will always be replaced. I’ll be taking a wait and see approach.
However, a 1Ds4 announcement already? I thought the 1D4 was early…. this would be crazy.
cr
Slow
There’s nothing going on in Canon land at the moment. I’m digging up nothing.
70-200 2.8L IS II
I did received an email claiming the 24th of November WAS correct but an announcement has been delayed until January.
A couple of stores in Canada I spoke to that had long backorders on 70-200 f/2.8L IS say they finally got a couple of lenses. This also happened to them shortly before Nikon announced their replacement.
Bored? Howabout a 3D Rumor?
“According to my friend after canons “disappointment” with the 7D they will be releasing a full frame version in mid-late 2010.”
Yeah, I’m stretching here… but I hate not updating the site. Have some fun :)

Soon!
I received notice that there will be a Canon announcement on November, 24, 2009 in regards to a new 70-200 f/2.8L IS II.
No word on any other lenses being announced. Still waiting on CR3 confirmation.
